Sims 3 crash issues, claims gaphics problems, followed all steps.

Post by Mind The Teeth on Wed 08 May 2013, 19:50

Hey guys, I've been fighting this for about a week now before finally giving up.
I reinstalled all of my sims games and content following the G4TW guidelines, I have installed the ultimate fix, I have enabled compatibility mode, disabled all of my DEP with the Sims exe files, and used the 4 gb patch from NTCore (I've followed all steps in this guide that are applicable http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t857-the-sims-3-crashes-freezes-to-desktop-fix-updated-on-29-09-2012), I've also set to run in windowed mode.
I'm running Windows 8, on a 64 bit system with 8 gigs of RAM, Intel i7 - 3630QM CPU@ 2.40 GHz , and my graphics card is an NVIDIA GEFORCE GT (Architecture Fermi
Pipelines 144 - unified
Core Speed * 675-753 MHz
Shader Speed * 1350-1505 MHz
Memory Speed * 785-900 MHz
Memory Bus Width 128/192 Bit
Memory Type DDR3/GDDR5
Max. Amount of Memory 2048 MB
Shared Memory no
DirectX DirectX 11, Shader 5.0
technology 40 nm
Notebook Size large
Date of Announcement 06.12.2011)
I have also disabled Vertical Sync on my graphics card.
Now, I might not the brightest with all of this, but I still don't have all graphics options maxed, and I really don't feel I should have to play in minimum graphics with my specs. However, my sims crash log analyzer says:

Any ideas? I really did try to take a long time before asking about this, I had sims 3 on my old laptop and it always worked fine, so I'm a little confused.

Hello there,

First, you might want to check out
this article here . Especially the section about graphics cards could be interesting for you.
Other than that: did you patch the correct file with the 4GB patch ? You should patch the "TS3W.exe" in Program files (x86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin
(this is the base game directory).

//EDIT
What is that "1 Custom content" you are using ?

That's the really weird bit, I have NO custom content. I haven't downloaded ANYTHING, I only have the official games and expansions. And yes, I patched the correct file, I also noticed a post in one of the other main help pages in which someone had done it to EVERY .exe in every bin folder of every game, and still no success. Reading over the MTS post now.
EDIT: Read over the compatibility chart, my card isn't listed. I bought the computer like, a week ago, so that's likely the reason it's not there, being a new card

Hello again,

I'm curious about this here:

Maybe that has to do with an anti-virus/malware program ? You might try adding the path of "TS3W.exe" to the "exceptions" of your anti-virus software, but that's just an "educated guess" I'm afraid. Another theoretical possibility is that the DirectX11 version on your laptop has some components of earlier DirectX programmes "missing". I can't help too much with that though, you have to google for downloads of DirectX10 and perhaps DirectX9 too - I have done something similar when I still had Win XP, and these DirectX things used to be available for download back then (but I suppose they still are).
And then run the installer - it should not do damage to your system, but you might want to wait for a second opinion
Wat..

And yes, the MTS guideline on System requirements might not be up-to-date anymore, so you might want to google for any compatibility issues concerning your graphics card.

The error basically says that instead of your awesome-for-gaming Nvidia card, the game is defaulting to your not-so-awesome-at-all Intel card. You might want to go check into that.
