Story progression cannot be turned off

Post by ZoCurious on Thu 09 May 2013, 19:54

After four years of playing multi-generational families, I decided to
play Sunset Valley with story progression turned off and lifespan set to
epic, so that I could enjoy all (or almost all) households for a while.
I turned it off in the options menu, but it was still on, so I did
this: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/6537.page

At
first I thought the solution was working, but now I know it doesn't.
Victoria and Beau Andrews are suddenly divorced, as are Nick and Vita
Alto (despite the fact that I left the latter with perfect relationship
when I switched to another household). Cyclone Sword and Blair
Wainwright were going steady, but apparently broke up when Cyclone
decided to make out with a Chinese tourist guy during a protest at the
City Hall. I recently saw Parker Langerak making out with his elderly
mother-in-law Fiona McIrish at the library and in front of his wife
River, so I suppose they too are now divorced. Oddly, River showed no
jealousy but her mother did when he immediately after made out with
River - perhaps it has something to do with Parker's Irresistible trait?

Anyway, I really want to disable it. What should I do? I dislike using mods, so solutions that do not include them are preferred - though not exclusively.

Hello,

I haven't used EA's progression system in years but I think you should be able to turn it off in the in-game options menu. Sims are still going to use social interactions though and some of those might be romantically inclined.
If you want to have total control of story progression, or lack thereof, you're going to need a mod. This one comes highly recommended and has many options.

Thank you for responding so swiftly! I did turn it off but it does not appear to be actually "off". I understand that Sims will still perform various social interactions (it would be odd if they didn't) but getting divorced and randomly changing careers is not supposed to happen. I've heard about that mod. In fact, I've used nraas mods before. I suppose I don't have any other choice, do I?

Hello,

Not if you really want to have control of story progression.
I can understand your reluctance to use mods, but these are safe. I've been using story progressions for years. Not even sure how long, I want to say 3 years. Never had problems with it.
