Need help with Error 0x0175dcbb. [SOLVED]

Post by Jhuidah on Wed 15 May 2013, 09:37

Hi Folks,

I just want to start off by saying that I've been a long time lurker, and I love this site. For the game downloads and the general air of friendly helpfulness...it's really great. I'm just not big on posting online--I tend to read more than I type--so I haven't participated on the forum side.

With that said, I have a problem with which my lurking cannot help. I have The Sims 3 installed as well as several expansion packs (Ambitions, Diesel, Fast Lane, Generations, High-End Loft, Late Night, Master Suite, Outdoor Living Stuff, Seasons, Showtime, Supernatural, Town Life, World Adventures), all from this wonderful site. I haven't played since the beginning of the year (I had a huge project that I was working on for grad school, and now I am FINALLY done). I say that to say, the game worked fine the last time I played...tried to start it up tonight and nothing.

I got the "catastrophic failure" error a few times, and the "install base game" error. I uninstalled and reinstalled my base game. I am no longer getting those errors, but now I am getting the "error during startup, check your log" and the "unable to start game service, initialization failed 0x0175dcbb" errors.

Pretend that I am 9 and explain things to me on that level. I need someone to guide me through this. I have searched the site and tried a few different things to no avail. I NEED TO PLAY now that grad school is over. Laughing

Edit: Just realized I put this in the wrong spot, probably. I'm going to bed. WhatDidUJustCallMe?

Nice to have you on the forum. Don't worry, we would help you out even if you weren't a regular Wink
That being said, it's nice to know you searched a bit around before opening a new topic...

So, are you sure nothing happened since the last time you played? Anything new to your computer/game?

Found a few issues of this error code, I would suggest havin g a look round these topics

http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t5773p20-the-sims-3-error-0x0175dcbb

http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t2060-the-sims-3-error-during-startup-and-error-0x0175dcbbneed-help-plz-solved

Although these topics I have linked are quite old, It appears that it is a installation issue, hopefully you will find something that gets you thinking "I did not do that correctly" or something else and it solves your issue

Thanks for the welcome! As far as I know, I didn't do anything other than install Windows updates. Not sure if any of those might have had a negative effect on the game.

I will read through these and see if anything clicks. I might just uninstall everything and reinstall. At this point, this seems like the least frustrating option.

Wait there probably is no need to go through all the uninstall/reinstall process.
You must have done something related to the game, install a mod, or move some files. A windows update shouldn't have done anything...
Try to remember as this would help us find the root of the problems.
Other than that, do you have any mods or/and CC installed?

If nothing else helps and you do decide to un-install everything, then you should follow this guideline here: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Uninstall

Make sure to take care (= properly delete) of the registry keys too !

I decided not to do that yet. I do have some CC. I don't believe I have any mods. I also have the game installed on an external drive, so that might also be an issue (although it never has been before). I haven't played at all in months, so I don't think I installed anything to do with the game. But I cannot be 100% certain.

Ok first, let's try with deleting the cache.
Do you need help with that?

Ok since you don't think you have any mods or CC, delete both folders DCCache and DCBackup.
See if it helps...

Welp. I deleted those folders. I was then able to open the launcher, which I haven't been able to do at all. I got a "you are running an unauthorized copy" message. Figured it had to do with the fact that I didn't run the manual update after I reinstalled last night/this morning.

HOWEVER. After clicking on the manual update, now I am getting the "catastrophic failure" error again. Then the "please insert correct disk."

Did you apply the crack from the Ultimate Fix? You shouldn't use the crack from the torrent...

Yes. Applied the crack from Ultimate Fix, click on the manual patch to update my game...and "catastrophic failure"...click on retry, and then I get the "please insert the correct disk."

Ok, follow the Instructions inside.
First, you should take all files from the different folders and move them to the correct location, except the Crack folder.
Then you update your game: either you open the launcher and check for updates or you use this.
Then you take the files from the Crack folder of the Ultimate fix and move them to the base game location.
That should make it work!

Followed the instructions to a T and still got the "feature transfer error: catastrophic failure" message when I try to update the game to the current version.

Now for some reason it is installing the update. Great! Then it stops halfway through and tells me access is denied.

Well, I gave up on fiddling with this and that so I uninstalled and reinstalled stuff. Got the same errors, but then I decided to check out my registry keys per one of the links I found on the site. There were a couple wonky things happening in there. Once I fixed those and restarted my computer--voila! Game is now working! Hooray! Thanks folks!
