Click On Sim Lag

Post by forever131 on Thu 13 Jun 2013, 19:29

Hi there, so I have been having this little problem with my game. Everytime I click on a sim it freezes for about 5-10 seconds and finally comes up. This is very frustrating and makes my game virtually unplayable. I do have mods but they have never posed a problem before and i haven't added any recently into my game. I also have a fairly large amount of store content. My operating system is Windows 8. If you need any more info just ask! Hope you can solve my problem. Smile

Hello there,

OK, let's try this here first: go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and delete the following things:

-CASPartCache.package
-compositorCache.package
-scriptCache.package
-simCompositorCache.package
-socialCache.package
-plus the contents of the folders "WorldCaches" & "Thumbnails"

Yes, thanks for jumping in, invalidusername !

I actually wanted to edit my message because I thought it would be unclear - as it turned out it was, unfortunately.

Now back to you "forever131": yes, start the game and play for a while to see if you encounter any problems. This cache deleting should be done regularly, but especially after (un-)installing mods or custom content and after (un-)installing expansion or stuff packs; depending on your graphics card you may have to do that too if you update your graphics driver (at least I have to do that).

OK, then..

Otherwise you may try defragmenting your hard-drive, or you could also try the tool called "Gamebooster" (you should find it on Piratebay).

//EDIT

You may go to the Mods/Packages location and post a screenshot of the inside of your "Packages" folder, if you want. I suggest in that case you choose the 1024x size in "Host an image".

Yes, sorry for the thing with the patch 1.6 - at first I thought it was re-leased, but then I found out it wasn't actually Embarassed.

I've edited my post in the meantime, so..

Again, to make a screenshot, press Prt Scr which is ( USUALLY ) next to F12 , on top of Insert , and next to Scroll Lock. Then you open, for example, a program like "Microsoft Paint" and select the option "Paste". Now you should see your screenshot - then you save your picture.

To upload a picture here, click on "Host image", then select your screenshot. After that you should get the URL (the "internet link") for that picture. Now you go to "Insert image" (the symbol on the right next to "Host image") and paste the URL.

OK, while it is a good idea to merge .package files, especially if you have a lot of them, in this case I cannot see the..."contents" of the merged .packages. You might try "Delphy's Dashboard" (google for that) and scan that folder with it. Maybe it can find conflicts or other problems with these .packages.

Just for testing purposes: can you make a new savegame and play for a while in that ?

Another thing to try is to save your family to the bin (in "edit town" mode) and put them in a new savegame. Keep in mind though, that all relationships will vanish then. Therefore, you can also try the latest verision of the "NRAAS Porter mod". This mod can even move whole sim populations into new towns (= you won't lose relationships then).

I've tried that. I opened Aurora Skies and placed down my family and it still happened. I even tried in Sunset Valley but still happened. Wat. I even tried to just use a family that was already there. Oh another thing i should note is that this problem started after i installed Ambitions and World Adventures. I also installed 3 custom towns but i uninstalled them and the eps after i saw what happened.

The most radical solution, to rule out problems with mods/CC or corrupt saves is this (in case you haven't tried that already):

go to My documents/Electronic Arts and rename the folder with the name "The Sims 3" in any way (example: "The Sims 3_"). If you then start a game, you will see that all your old saves are gone + your mods/CC too. So start a completely new savegame (without any mods/CC) and see if this makes any difference.

If not, this can be a Windows 8 or a hardware-related issue; meaning: I'm not sure what else you could try then Crying or Very sad. I mean, there is the "usual stuff" like updating Windows/ graphics drivers, deactivating Anti-virus software, which you can try, but I'm not sure if this can help at all in your case.

@forever131 wrote:Ill try that. I really appreciate you trying to help me! Very Happy

OK, one last thing: if renaming "The Sims 3" doesn't help, then you have two folders in My Documents/Electronic Arts:

1) "The Sims 3".........this is the NEWLY (NO mods/CC/saves) created folder; which you can delete completely.

2) "The Sims 3_".........this folder contains your mods, CC and old saves. After deleting the new folder in 1), you can rename this folder back to "The Sims 3".

However, if it DOES work, you can then start putting things back from your old folder ("The Sims 3_") into your new "The Sims 3" folder (one by one):

1) Your old saves (folder "Saves")
2) DCCache (contains your installed .sims3packs)
3) Installed Worlds (contains "downloadable worlds" such as Hidden Springs, Dragon Valley, Aurora Skies, etc. so worlds that are NOT included in an expansion pack).

Maybe tomorrow another Helper will guide you with putting things back in if there are problems Wink, if I'm not here.

Hello,

You merged your mods? Are you sure all of them are the latest versions?
Just so you know, merging mods like the ones from the Nraas suite isn't recommended, since they get updated so frequently.

Even if they are up-to-date, it is theoretically possible that there are some conflicts between them (which Delphy's Dashboard can't show). For example, while you can have one mod installed, you can't have certain others, even if they all are "up-to-date". Or you can only have a certain mod installed (example: NRAAS MasterController Progression) when you at the same time have a certain other mod installed too (here it's NRAAS Story Progression).

I'm sure you get the idea. But again, unless you show us another screenshot where you can see the (unmerged) ".packages" all separately, it is up to you to make sure there are no conflicts with your mods Wink. Please, always read the instructions of your mods/CC very carefully. To make it even easier for you, for a start here is this: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/State+of+the+Mod

Please read up on that site regularly for updates on NRAAS mods. Smile

Other than that, please go on with renaming "The Sims 3"-folder like I explained to you above.
