No Serial asked when installing

Post by Shibboleth on Sat 15 Jun 2013, 15:37

Bump. I'm having the exact same issue: I did a clean uninstall via add or remove program, hunting down the remaining files in my program files folder, etc.

If it helps any, the version that used to be on my computer was downloaded from Origin (though I've cleaned out those folder as well).

I'd really appreciate if someone could help us out.

Splitted the topic so you have your own thread.
Now, can you please be a bit more specific about your problem please?

Thanks for helping me create a new thread, Shamrock. I'll try to be as specific as I can regarding my issue.

In the past I've installed several Sims 3 expansion/stuff packs via Origin.

Specifically:

TS3 Base Game
TS3 World Adventures
TS3 High End Loft Stuff
TS3 Ambitions
TS3 Fast Lane Stuff
TS3 Late Night
TS3 Outdoor Living Stuff
TS3 Generations
TS3 Town Life Stuff

I've since done a clean uninstall via add/remove programs as I mentioned in my original post. I also removed the remaining files in the Program Files folder to the best of my ability. I should also mention that I used a handful of Mods as well (the awesomemod, some skin alteration mods), but cleared them out before uninstalling the games themselves. I'm now trying to install a cracked version of the base game and all its expansions. When I try to run the installation, however, it skips the step that prompts you to input the game's serial number altogether. How can I fix this problem? Could there still be some files lingering from the old installation?

When you say you installed game from Origin... could it be you installed games from Steam?

They were originally purchased on Steam then transferred over to (and installed via) Origin for modding purposes. I also made sure the Steam directories of the Sims 3 were cleaned up as well.

Ok, then here's the problem: Steam games and disc games are not compatible. Evil or Very Mad
So, if you want to install your cracked game, you'll have to uninstall everything, and install all cracked games... No
Sorry, that's how Censored up EA is...
But you can keep your Steam ids to go to the website and download.

Re: No Serial asked when installing

Perhaps I misspoke, what I meant to say was the games were all installed via Origin (they were only purchased on Steam, I exported the keys to Origin). They've all been removed from my computer, all I'm trying to do is install the cracked versions from scratch (from the base game onward). The problem I'm running into is that the installer of the cracked version doesn't ask me for any serial numbers during installation (after the terms of agreement step). What would cause this to happen and how can I fix it?

Won't it cause problems if it bypasses the serial number step, though?

Thanks for the help, man, I'll make sure to give it a shot and let you know how it works.

Yes, it should ask the key...
Well try it like this, then you can always uninstall it if it doesn't work!

Why aren't you able to use those games that you had installed through Origin anymore? (Was there any specific reason you uninstalled them)

Re: No Serial asked when installing

Post by Shibboleth on Sun 16 Jun 2013, 04:03

No particular reason, I'd played Sims 3 to death and it was just taking up space on the hard drive, so I uninstalled it. I wanted to reinstall it so I could try out all the new content I'd missed. I guess my concern was that if I used my Origin copies of the game and its expansions they'd find out something was up, ban me, and revoke access to the games. I was also concerned that Origin would try to auto-update and make the cracks unusable. Would my Origin copies actually work in conjunction with the cracked versions?

//EDIT

UPDATE: I successfully installed the base game and all expansions/stuff packs. I loaded up the game and everything was working fine at first, as I was able to get past the initial load screen and the neighborhood select screen without a hitch. Problem is, the game crashed my computer to a blue screen of death once the second load time finished. Is this a sign that the fix didn't work? Or is it merely proof that my computer buckled under the strain of the massive amounts of content (which is possible, since I'm trying to run it on a laptop)?

Helper edit: if you want to add something to your post, please use the "edit" button. It will allow you to modify your post. Thanks Wink

It could be...
Please try this, and tell us the result.
Have you tried without CC? Go to Documents\Electronic Arts and rename the The Sims 3 folder (add a letter or something, so the game won't recognize it...)

I used the site you suggested and it said my computer was able to run the game and its expansions (which makes sense, I played a few of the expansions and stuff packs in the past). Is it possible that running such a staggering amount of content just crashed my computer?

Pardon my ignorance, but what does CC mean?

Re: No Serial asked when installing

After I got the Blue Screen of Death, I rebooted the computer and the game worked fine. Still, it's pretty weird it never asked for those codes. Is it possible they were preserved on my computer somehow from the previous installation?

One last (unrelated) question: are the cracks compatible with most mods (skin mods, etc)?

Thanks for helping me out, Shamrock.

Dunno... As long as it's working! Wink
Yes, feel free to install mods and custom content as long as they are compatible with your expansions and your version of the game!
No problem for the help, I will leave the topic open for now...

It is absolutely 100% ok to use Origin games along with torrented. Smile I have, I think, 5 of the games through Origin, and the rest are from here, with no issues.

That's good to know, invalidusername. How is it possible that the updates to the game via Origin have absolutely no adverse effect on the cracks?

Because those game updates are the same exact updates that we share on here, which after using you have to reapply the crack anyways. The other updates, for Origin itself, are completely useless, and can be ignored. I never use Origin itself, but keep it installed anyways. Really, how this works is that Origin just knows about the games you have installed through it. The rest of the games installed are recognized as installed, but they look the same as if they were installed from disk. Smile
