Game freezes 10-20 min after starting

Post by Elubelle on Fri 21 Jun 2013, 10:18

Okay so i will start by saying that i followed the exact steps while installing Sims 3 and the expansions that i wanted.
The expansions i have are:
-Ambitions
-High-End Stuff
-Late Night
-Generations
-Pets
-Master Suite Stuff
-Katy Perry Sweet Treats
-Supernatural
-Seasons
-University Life

I have also looked in the SIMS 3 FAQ and did everything that was recommended in a link from this site related to the game crashing to the desktop and i mean EVERYTHING.

To explain my problem thoroughly, after i start the game everything runs smoothly and of course i want to make a new family. After getting about half-way through making my first member of the family, the game freezes even though the music continues. I wait for 5-10 min hoping it would unfreeze but it doesn't.

Then i lower it and look around to see if maybe there's a pop up from the firewall or something like that. When i bring it back up the screen is black and it is unresponding once again. I then have to Ctrl+Alt+Del to be able to exit the game.

This has happened before, exactly one year ago when i tried to play it on my laptop and now again.

It used to work fine(but slow) on my ancient, i repeat ANCIENT pc but on my laptop this happens.

My laptop is a Dell and it's got this:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz
Installed Memory(RAM): 4.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System

I know the laptop might be my problem but pleeeeeease try to help me! I've been trying to make this game work for sooo long and i love it so much and i'm so frustrated, cause i thought since i got a new laptop i might be able to play it even smoother but nooo.. And i don't have the money to spend on the game and all the expansions i want so PLEASE HELP!

Thank you Sad

Ok, what is your graphic card? Are your drivers up to date?

Hello,
Thank you Sad

Hello,

Have you tried any of the suggestions posted here ? http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t857-the-sims-3-crashes-freezes-to-desktop-fix-updated-on-29-09-2012

Especially #2 (deactivating DEP) and #3 (Assigning more RAM to memory) can be useful. Keep in mind that if you download the "4 GB patch", then you have to patch the "TS3W.exe" in C:\Program files(x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin (= the base game location).

What about your latest Windows and graphics driver updates ? Have you downloaded and installed them alreaedy ?

Also: go to My Documents/Electronic Arts and rename the folder "The Sims 3" in any way you like (example: "The Sims 3_old"). This will deactivate all your mods, custom content and any corrupted savefiles.

If this renaming doesn't help, you can rename the folder back to its original name ("The Sims 3").

Instead, please re-download and re-apply the big manual patch, available here: http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t1870-can-t-update-the-sims-3-to-v150-fix-manual-patch.

Then you re-download and re-apply the "Ultimate fix", available here: mega.co.nz #!9lFXWbjS!INAc-AFhLahRC3oWm4IxHwRIbqhacz3Fbzj6sOm6zE8

OK, good luck for now !

Hello again,

Sorry to hear that. Crying or Very sad

But do you know how to "switch" graphics cards ? For NVIDIA graphics cards, try going into the "NVIDIA control panel".

Then look for something called "Manage 3D settings", then go to the "Program settings" tab.

Under "select a program to customize", choose the TS3W.exe, in the base game location
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin

And under "select a preferred graphics processor for this program", select the NVIDIA Geforce GT 525M. Then you maybe have to click on "OK/confirm" or something similar.

Now try the game again.

Ok i will be sure to try that and get back to you Smile

Helper edit: yes, there are problems with the "reply with quote" button. I don't know when this will be corrected, but until this happens you can try the following: Switch into the "editor mode" (the symbol on the far right of the bar). Now you "mark" the text with the mouse, in order to make it visible.
At the end of the text, click with your mouse next to the end of the sentence, THEN you hit "Enter". After that you type in something (you can't see it for now).

Now click again on the symbol "editor mode" - and your text should be outside of the quote box. Wink

Crying or Very sad Sad

If you really tried all the suggestions in my first reply, then I'm not sure what you could still do.

Even if your laptop seems powerful enough to handle that game, they are still not made for gaming, in the first place.

That said, what you could try is to un-install some of the expansions you don't like/you don't need. But other than that I'm afraid I have said everything I know about this. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful Sad

Yes, please, tell us how it went.

By the way, the thing with the "reply with quote button" now seems to be working again. Very Happy

I am so happy and thank you Carlos G. for doing your best to help me and i also wish to thank Shamrock who although only left one post, made me wonder if i had updated my drivers and thus guided me towards fixing my game.
