Changing IP Address

Post by Schendrick on Thu 24 Oct 2013, 09:33

How can I change my IP Address? I tried doing the suggestion from different blogs by changing the Adapter Settings on my CPanel but it doesn't give me a new IP.

Why I want to change my IP Address is because I'm blocked from voting on a poll for some reason and it says something about my IP. And I really want to vote on the poll but I can't because apparently, my IP's not allowed. scratch

Then you need to use the Browser to change IP.
Tell me how you like it. Otherwise we'll try something else...

Hello,

Depends on your ISP/country. If you have a dynamic IP, your IP address will change every time you restart your modem.
If you have a dynamic IP, it'll never change and you can change it either.
You can, however, use a proxy or VPN to let the website you're visiting think that you're visiting from another country.

Oh, yay! It works. But does it change IP address everytime I re-open the Tor Browser or is the IP Address already permanent on the Tor Browser?

I don't know how to use proxy/VPN on GC, tho. >.<

You could even use a "webproxy". Just type this into google...

When you get to such a webproxy, you'll see a window saying something like "type URL here". Type the address of the site where you want to take that poll - and then try taking the poll again.

A "webproxy" is pretty much like a normal website; and while on that site, you need to type in an internet URL.

For example: type into Google "hidemyass".

As far as Tor is concerned, your IP is changed while the browser is opened. Or so I believe...

I have a problem with the webproxy, tho. It doesn't show the log-in button, because I need to log in before I could participate in the poll. I guess I'll just have to link in the log in page first to the webproxy before I could vote Very Happy

Everything works, guys. Thank you so much! Very Happy

Tor Browser is a heaven-sent gift. It's perfect as far as I have used it. THANK YOU!!!

Re: Changing IP Address

Post by Adwomin on Fri 25 Oct 2013, 13:05

Hello,

Glad to hear it's working fine now.
Just note that the proxy is not a way to hide your online identity(!). The Tor browser will only proxy the data that goes through the browser. So if you open a new non-Tor browser window, it won't go through the proxy.

If you actually want to hide your online identity, go for a VPN. But since that's not the case, Tor and/or Hidemyass will do just fine for you.
Have fun!

Anything else we can help you with at the moment?
