Do I have to uninstall all of my games?

Post by georgia_lewiss on Sun 15 Jun 2014, 12:59

I downloaded Sims 3, 70's 80's and 90's stuff and Island Paradise first of all. My games worked fine. I couldn't download World Adventures, it just wouldn't work at all (kept getting launch error, check log files and everything I tried didn't work so I uninstalled it). I downloaded Ambitions, Fast Lane Stuff, Late Night, Outdoor Living Stuff and Generations last night. Fast Lane Stuff says I have to have World Adventures, High End Loft Stuff and Ambitions. I have Ambitions now, but it says I don't have 70's 80's and 90's and Island Paradise any more. Then another says I have to uninstall and reinstall them all, in order. Do I have to do this in order for the games to work or doesn't it matter? Shall I just uninstall everything and then reinstall them all? Because I don't really want to have to do that. Help would be appreciated.

edit;
Nevermind the Fast Lane Stuff thing, it says Optional (my bad!)
But it still says I don't have 789's and Island Paradise. I tried to install the games without the order, and after Generations I got a log error. I uninstalled all of my games and I am currently reinstalling them in order. Please don't close the thread - I want to post here if I have any problems rather than creating a new one and taking up unneeded space.

Process:
World Adventures is installing much smoother than before and has gotten a lot further than it used to. So far, so good..

Hello,

Basically you should never un-install anything from your computer unless you are absolutely sure you want to get rid of it and if you're not planning to re-install at a later date (at least if you're running Windows; not sure if this is the same in Mac OS and Linux), because if you don't do the un-install right, it will make matters worse, and besides, simply un-installing and re-installing very rarely solves problems.

First, check out the video here:

If your Windows is a 32-bit version the location in the registry is a bit different than the one from the video: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Sims -> The Sims 3

Next, the order in which you install is totally unimportant. Just re-do the steps from #2 to #4 here, all the tijme:

http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t1171-must-read-how-to-install-the-sims-3-correctly

Keep in mind though that in order for this to work, you'll need to have at least one of the expansions/stuffpacks mentioned in step #1, installed. Good luck !

I watched that video a million times and it fixed nothing unfortunately (seems my laptop hates us all). World Adventures is absolutely fine, but then High End Loft Stuff was installed (I only downloaded it today) and as I was playing for about 20 minutes, it crashed. I don't know whether to just save after important things every time I play or if this is going to cause greater problems. I'm about to follow the thread for that, though, and take it step by step. Hopefully it'll work Smile

edit; And I never forget those steps! It comes automatically to me now. Smile

The fact that you know how to apply the video solution and the steps I mentioned has absolutely nothing to do with your follow-up problem, namely the crashing. Smile  That is something entirely different now.

Now have another  look at this other topic here and re-do all steps: http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t857-the-sims-3-crashes-freezes-to-desktop-fix-updated-on-7-01-2014

If your Windows is a 64-bit version AND if your computer has 4 GB of RAM or more, then focus on step #3 in particular. Download the "4 GB patch" from here.

After downloading, double-click on that 4 GB patch and in the next prompt, choose the TS3W.exe in your base game location. Usually, that's C:\Program files(x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin. Wait for the message "executable successfully patched" and close the 4 GB patch.

Note that this method will not work if your Windows is a 32-bit version and/or if your computer has fewer  than 4 GB of RAM. After doing that, go on with the rest of the steps. These instructions should be pretty self-explanatory.

Now go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and delete all contents inside the Currentgame.sims3 folder. Also, in My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3, delete the following stuff:

-CASPartCache.package
-compositorCache.package
-scriptCache.package
-simCompositorCache.package
-socialCache.package
-plus the contents of the folders "WorldCaches" & "Thumbnails"

Re-start the game then and see if anything improved. You may even turn off your anti-virus program completely before playing The Sims 3.

Good luck !
