Installing Windows 7 on a Macbook Pro

Post by Lou-Ann on Sun 07 Sep 2014, 23:07

Hello everyone!
I own a Macbook Pro - early 2011 running Snow Leopard. I wish to partition my Macbook so I can have a Windows partition and play The Sims 4 in the future. I partitionned my Mac. The problem is the installing Windows part. I downloaded the Windows 7 All Editions at the official games4theworld download website and burned it - at least I think I burned it - to an usb key but when I try to install it through Bootcamp Assistant it doesn't detect Windows on the usb key. Maybe am I doing something wrong? I looked through the forum but found nothing. I also have an old laptop running Windows 7 in case it can help. Thank you very much if someone helps!

Hi Lou-Ann, I'm having sort of a similar problem too. I am using a mid 2014 Macbook Pro with Mavericks. I also downloaded the Windows 7 All Editions from the G4TW website. But when I try to create a bootable USB drive through Bootcamp Assistant using that iso it says 'Your bootable USB drive could not be created. Boot Camp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform. Please use a ISO file for 64-bit Windows installation.' Maybe it's because it has multiple versions on it and it's not s specific 64-bit only iso? I don't know..
And I really don't want to download it from anywhere else because its too sketchy. I only really trust G4TW because I've downloaded many of The Sims 3 Eps from them on my old laptop. :<

While you're at it, why not install Windows 8.1 already?
It runs faster and will be better for Sims 4.
Plus, our version is 64-bits! Wink

Hello tgorrey,

While I'm unsure about the peculiarities of "Bootcamp", I can tell you - from my experience - that Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) would be a better choice, if you intend to use that Windows partition for gaming purposes too. Windows 8 still has lots of problems, especially with older games. On the whole, I would recommend using Windows 7 (Ultimate x64), rather than any Windows 8 version.

It's not a "life-or-death" decision, but just my opinion. Wink

Re: Installing Windows 7 on a Macbook Pro

Post by Lou-Ann on Fri 12 Sep 2014, 19:09

I tried several things since I posted this.
I installed Windows XP and it worked but I couldn't access the Internet, which I need for Origin. It says that my Bootcamp version could only handle Windows 7 32 or 64bits.
I burnt the Windows 7 All Editions from the official games4theworld download website to a CD/DVD but it didn't work either. Maybe is it because, as Tgorrey said, it is not a specific version?

I am now looking for a Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) as mentioned above but the fact is that I can't find a proper link for it. I downloaded three different links and they're all different. Some are X17-59007.iso , X15-65738.iso and others X17-59197.iso . I don't know which one is the right one. Plus, on some websites they say that there is a recovery iso and an installation iso which is different.
Just wondering which iso is the right one for an installation and where I can find it since games4theworld doesn't offer it?

Thank you very much for your answers!

I'm so sorry for the late reply, I must have forgotten this thread.  Facepalm  For the future, feel free to contact one of the team members via PM, if you don't get a reply within 24 hours of your last message in a thread.

Anyhow, there are actually two versions of Windows 7 from G4TW, the old one is called "Windows 7 All Editions". The problem with the old one was - if I remember correctly (?) - that it was not bootable.

However, there is a new Windows 7 release called "Windows 7 All Editions x64 and x86 *NEW*". Did you also try this new version ? You can get it here:
http://www.games4theworld.org/downloads.html

It's one of the latest torrents; the fourth torrent fom the top of the list. Other than that, look for bootable Windows 7 versions somewhere on Piratebay. Good luck again !

Hello! I'm so sorry for the late response! Thank you very much for your reply! Unfortunately the Windows 7 All Editions x64 and x86 *NEW* link is dead... I downloaded the legal ISO of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from Windows (or a site that is linked to them, I don't really know what was written) but I don't have a serial key to activate it. So I was wondering if the activator thing into the Windows 7 All Edition could work too on the legal version? Like, does it only generate serial key for the games4theworld version? Thank you (: xx

Hi there! Smile

If the normal link is not working, you could try downloading it with the magnet link at the left of it. I just tried it and worked fine.

And yes, I think that you can use the Activators in the ISO you got from Microsoft directly. It's worth the try, at least. Wink
You can find them here, in MEGA uploaded by Admin:

Instructions are included, of course.

Please, let us know how it goes. Good luck! Very Happy

Hello again,

No problem; at least you did come back to reply. Razz  Anyhow, I personally prefer "Remove WAT"; my favorite Windows 7 activator because of its simplicity of use and its effectiveness. See also this topic here on how to use it:

http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t17907-windows-7-update-disables-remove-wat-activation-possible-fix

There is also a download link for it (I think it's the same though as what SeoY posted). If in doubt, download the one from the link I just posted. And look inside for the "Activator/Folder 4". Good luck and keep us posted !

Alright! I downloaded the legal ISO of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from Windows and Windows 7 All Editions x64 and x86 *NEW*, burnt them into DVD but when the computer restarts it says that there is no bootable device so... Why God.

What did you do....?! Razz

Please, only burn ONE of them onto a DVD, and use that one to boot. Also, you might need to configure the BIOS of your computer to boot from the CD/DVD drive. So choose ONE of them only, for your Windows installation.

You cannot "burn both of them onto a single DVD"...Wink

The solutions I found

Post by isepr8 on Sat 15 Nov 2014, 01:49

Hi, just thought I would relay the things I discovered during my experience installing Window 7 on my MacBook.

First and most importantly, for whatever reason you need to burn the Windows ISO to the DVD at the slowest possible speed. I don't know why this is, but I made several DVDs that would not install because Bootcamp wouldn't recognize them before I came upon this solution.

Secondly, if the installation stalls, you can force a restart and then hold down the Option key to get a list of bootable partitions. The Windows partition should be called either Windows or Bootcamp.

For the most part I just followed the instructions from Apple on how to install Windows. My particular MacBook doesn't support installing from an image file like the newer ones do, nor does it support anything newer than Window 7. IMHO Windows 7 is easier to use than Windows 8.

There are other threads here that address specific issues installing Sims 4 so I won't get into that other than saying it makes a difference what app you use to unzip/unrar the files. Although, you can uncompress them from you OSX partition directly to your Windows partition from within Windows. I made a shortcut to the folder on my OSX partition where I download those files on the Windows desktop.

I hope this information is helpful to someone.

Re: Installing Windows 7 on a Macbook Pro

Truly, the best way to install windows is to partition the hard drive manually using Disk Utility when you make your partiton you must format the drive to NTFS. So there is no confusion name your partition BOOTCAMP. Then, you insert your Windows disk and restart your mac and hold down the option key on start up to bring up the boot options. From there, choose your Windows Disk and follow the instructions. When it is time to choose a partion you need to choose "BOOTCAMP" which should be partition 4! Click format and wait for it to be completed. Then click on partiton 4 and continue the install. The Windows installer will restart your mac several times MAKE SURE you are next to your computer throughout the install. You will need to hold down the option key each time and choose the Windows partition to complete the install. For activation I would reccomend Activation 4 which is RemoveWAT. I hope this helps! Smile if you need anything else please feel free to contact me.
