Sims3Setup.exe won't open at all. [SOLVED]

Post by clauthia on Thu 18 Sep 2014, 05:41

Hi there! I hope i'm posting this in the correct section..
As the title of this post suggests, I can't seem to open the Sims3Setup.exe at all, so I am unable to even download the game. I get a "This App can't run on your PC. " notice whenever I try to open the Sims3Setup.exe file. My laptop is fairly new, a Lenovo Ideapad and runs on Windows Vista 8, it should have the required specs to run the game as it can run skyrim with a few texture mods.. I've been trying to solve this problem for many months now and to no avail. I'm hoping that someone here can give a suggestion on how to open the Sims3Setup.exe. I have tried changing the compatibility to vista, windows 7, windows xp but it doesn't work. Thank you in advance!  Help

EDIT: I torrented the files all from games4theworld, not from anywhere else. I also use daemon tools to open up the iso file.

Hi there, and welcome to the Games4theworld Forum! Smile

How exactly did you mount the iso file? After you mount it, you'll just need to double click the mounted image and the installation should start immediately.

Thank you!

I'm not very sure myself. There were previous attempts in the past few months to download the game, in which the steps requires me to.. (I'm not sure how you call it) but you create a disc where you can mount the game onto it. I ejected the discs this morning and redownloaded the files, and when I double clicked the .iso file, it immediately opened up in the disc, where I see the sims3setup.exe file.

You mean install the game, right? You should have the game already downloaded to have the files in your computer. Wink

You don't need physical discs to mount the game and install it, you can use virtual drives to do it (with Daemon Tools).

What you should do is open Daemon Tools Lite, then drag the .iso file(s) inside of it. They should appear in the Image Catalog. After that, make sure that you have a virtual drive to work with (it appears at the bottom of the program, with a letter assigned to it, like F: for example). If you don't have a virtual drive, then click the "Add DT Virtual Drive" button on the little bar. Take a look:

After that, you take the .iso file that you opened in the program and Mount it to the drive clicking the "Play" triangle in the same bar. Then, you just need to double click the mounted image at the bottom and the installation should start automatically. I don't currently have the base game .iso files, but I can show you with the SimCity ones. Here:

That is what you need to double click to start the installation.

I hope I understood what you meant. Be sure to let us know how it goes. Good luck! Very Happy

This is what shows up on my screen, the install does not start immediately after mounting the image. But instead the virtual drive with SIMS3 pops out and when i proceed to click on the sims3setup.exe it shows me the error. :\

Remember that you have to mount the image first. Right now, you aren't mounting it. You are opening the .iso file. You need to select an image (just like you did now), but instead of double clicking the image you need to click on the green triangle at the options bar you have. This will Mount the image. After that, you need to double click the virtual drive that are in the bottom part, not at the top.

I'm sorry that right now I can't help you with a screenshot, but I hope you understand what I mean. Smile

Keep us updated. Good luck! Very Happy

Thanks so much for your patience! But I have done what you have told me, I clicked on the green triangle that says "Mount", and double clicked on the virtual drive below, but it still opens up the same (H:) SIMS3 thing Sad

That's odd. Have you tried double clicking Autorun instead? Do you get the same error?

Yes, they all give me the same error. I'm wondering why there isn't a thumbnail for Autorun.exe and sims3setup.exe, they have missing thumbnails it seems. Could it be that the file is corrupt? But I downloaded it a few times, cleared the cache and all.

Don't worry, maybe the files aren't corrupt. It seems that you need to mount both .iso files at the same time. You can create another drive like I showed you, and then mount the other .iso into it. After that, try double clicking the one that says SIMS3.

I created another disc and mounted both at the same time but, the exact same thing happens. Sad Also the two virtual drives did not have the plumbob thumbnail. It almost seems as like the game is already installed (given that the files like "GameData" are inside) It just doesn't make any sense.

Well, I'm running out of ideas. When you extracted the .rar, did you do it with WinRAR? Using another program may damage the files. Be sure to use WinRAR to do it.

I'm not sure if this can cause issues, but I noticed that the .iso files you have are saved in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3. This folder is used by the game, so please move that folder to another location.

Hello clauthia,

I moved your topic to the correct section, since you did NOT post correctly. Please, for the future, pay more attention to the descriptions of each sub-forum on here. The sections about Sims games are very clearly labelled. Wink

As an interesting sidenote: up until relatively recently, misplaced topics like yours (including any replies by a Helper !) would have been immediately deleted by a Moderator or Admin (can you believe that ?). Now, we usually try moving those threads, as often as possible. Wink  Very Happy

//EDIT

As the problem is solved, I'll close the thread.
