Certain game file crashing

Post by Eflete on Fri 21 Nov 2014, 19:35

When I opened my sims game today, it loaded much faster than usual, then when I opened my save file, it did too, however the game stopped responding as soon as it reached the end of the bar.

This isn't happening with my other save files and I can start new saves.

The details of the crash are:
Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
  Application Name: TS3W.exe
  Application Version: 0.2.0.209
  Application Timestamp: 52d872da
  Fault Module Name: dbghelp.dll
  Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.17514
  Fault Module Timestamp: 4ce7b7bc
  Exception Code: c0000005
  Exception Offset: 0000f9ec
  OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
  Locale ID: 2057
  Additional Information 1: 7af0
  Additional Information 2: 7af0855a3d2dc3b99576c539772b48b4
  Additional Information 3: dc26
  Additional Information 4: dc264e7d0079ed38f81294c938581871

I have tried deleting the cache files, but nothing changed.

I tried using the backup game save, but it sent me back to an edit town screen with the error message:
some objects could not be loaded and were replaced
When I left this screen, I was at the screen you are given when you start a new game (with the create/choose family options)

I tried all steps of this: http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t857-the-sims-3-crashes-freezes-to-desktop-fix-updated-on-7-01-2014

(note that the program for step 3 did not work, I could not run the application)

I am running windows 7 and have all expansions installed.

Hello! Are you trying to open your savegame from a new "The Sims 3" Folder or are you opening the original? Does it happen when you try to open another save (if you don't have another, please create a new game, play a bit, save, exit the game, start the game and open the new save)?

I have a feeling that something happened with your installed content (removal, install or change). You may try using CC Magic, but it sometimes it won't help. I had an old save that will only work with it's original The Sims 3 folder, even though I have more content on the new The Sims 3 folder, I face the exact same issue.

Please let us know what you get, then we may think about next steps for you to try...

Thank you for your reply.

I don't understand what you mean by folders...
All my other files work and I have no installed content

Hello Eflete and welcome,

http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t17208-sims-3-has-stopped-working#118442

Have a good look at this thread and do everything described there. And why can't you "run the application from step #3" - the 4GB patch ? What exactly is the error you are getting ?

And how exactly did you "use the backup save" ? In order to use the backup, navigate to (My) Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Saves. Look for a folder named (Name of your save).sims3 and MOVE it to a safe place. Just move mit out somewhere. Then, on the folder (Name of your save).sims3.backup, you basically rename it by removing the .backup portion of the folder name. So rename the backup-folder so that it looks like the folder you moved out.

And if you get an error that content is missing, then it means that you very recently installed something into your game, usually.

Try the link I posted at the beginning and good luck for now !

You can find the definition of folders here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directory_%28computing%29
