The Sims 4 - "Origin not Running" Issue with latest Fix - In Wine Wrapper

Post by JDvickery94 on Fri 04 Sep 2015, 05:08

Hello everyone,

This is my first post, so stay with me on this one. I have read a lot on these forums of how to fix problems with The Sims 4, and all of them have worked so for. So thank you everyone at this point already!

I already knew how to use the Winery to wrap windows games and run them. Basically for everyone who does not know this, you have the .APP for the mac, inside the .APP that the winery makes, you have your C: drive which you would normally find in windows. Inside of course you have "program files" in which TS4 is installed inside of "Electronic Arts".

So after wrapping and installing TS4, it runs perfectly on my mac! opens fine, graphics are fine, no glitches. [TS4 installed here is the one downloaded from Games4theworld]

I was even able to download Games4theworld's "Get to Work" expansion and install that! Game still opened and worked perfectly!

I then downloaded Game4theworld's Ultimate fix "version 1.3.32.1010" (the one with the outdoor retreat and holiday celebration). This is when I first started having the problems. The game started saying "Origin not Running" blah blah blah. So that is when I came onto the forums and started reading. I reaaaalllly wanted the bear costumes. So I read that you needed to move your "The Sims 4" folder out of the "Electronic Arts" folder. So I did that, then changed my .EXE location in my Wine Wrapper. ANNNNDDD! We were Gucci. Everything was great. Game started running perfectly again, no bugs.

So here is the real big problem. I am now trying to install the newest fix. Version 1.10.57.1020 (the one with all the expansions and add-ons). So I installed it and then I kept getting "Origin isnt running". So I thought that my previous fix and expansion was getting in the way. I uninstalled it and started from scratch. Base game installed, then installed the latest fix. Same thing though, "Origin not running".

Welp now time to go back to the forums! The problem is, that everyone's fix on this matter is for the windows defender and anti-virus softwares. The problem with this is obviously, I am on a Mac, and don't have any of these things. I found an instruction on the forums by wataru2 [Hopefully just saying his name tags him here?plx help]

http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t20524-a-guide-on-how-to-install-the-sims-4-addons-dlc-on-mac-using-wine?highlight=the+sims+4+ultimate+fix

I have read everyone's posts in that thread, and tried them (installing TS4 - then GTW - then the fix). And of course doing what wataru2 said at the end of his tut to "Deny" the connection through your firewall. Unfortunately still not working, still getting "Origin not running".

If anyone has any amazing ideas, you will be a God

If you had ever installed Origin then it might have a leftover file in ProgramData. That happened to me today.

And PS: This doesn't mean anything but you can now skip Get to Work. They included it in the Ultimate Fix.

If that doesn't work make sure The Sims 4 is in Program Files not Program Files/Electronic Arts

Re: The Sims 4 - "Origin not Running" Issue with latest Fix - In Wine Wrapper

Post by JDvickery94 on Fri 04 Sep 2015, 14:19

Okay I think that might work, or hopefully it will. So I DO have Origin installed on the mac. But I DONT have Origin installed in the Wine Wrapper. I am not sure if Origin for mac would still effect it? Anyways, I went ahead and deleted my Origin cache files. Of course they are hidden on the mac, so i showed hidden files, then ~/Library/caches/Origin/ and deleted all the files in there. Unfortunately I an still getting TS4 error. Is there anywhere else I should be looking at for these Origin files?

Thanks a tonne!

Welp.

CHall10006 , I am going to cry now. Thanks for your help. You pointed me in the right direction that it was an issue with the Origin and not with my Sims 4 files!

I have not read anywhere on the forums the fix that I did. I ended up redoing it all again, new wrapper, installing TS4, then installing the newest fix, THEN I installed Origin inside the same wrapper!

So now whenever I open TS4, I just get a popup window saying "Origin couldn't run. check Wineskin site for a solution." Well guess what! I didn't want Origin to run anyways so HA! Yup, so that popup just shows up every time, no biggy, I just leave it there and TS4 opens normally and runs perfectly again, no bugs, and I now have all the Goodies!!!!! WOOOOOOO!!!

Thanks Games4theworld and CHall10006 Very Happy

I currently have the same issue, how did you "install Origin inside the same wrapper" exactly? Could you give me a step - by - step guide. I've been at this for hours Why.

Thanks

Oh my god, oh my god!! I got it working!!! A little hassle but this is what I did:

1. Download EXE (take note, not DMG) installer from Origin.
2. Right-click your Sims 4 wrapper and then click Show Package Content.
3. Double-click Wineskin.
4. Click Install Software.
5. Click Choose Setup Executable and the locate the Origin EXE file you downloaded.
6. Let it install. If there's an error that says Origin had to close bla bla bla, just click CLOSE.
7. Wait for the Wine window to show up, that means Origin was installed.
8. Double-click your Sims 4 wrapper and hit Enter once an error about origin needing to close shows up again.
9. Play the game!!

At first when I didn't get to hit enter and I opted to click CLOSE using my trackpad, the game opened in a windowed format but was really small. As in, 5x5-pixel small. But when I just used enter on my keyboard, it went on to the usual game.

My only problem is that my old game didn't load.

Also, I tried closing the game and opening it a gain a couple of times and it still worked.

I made a new game, closed the game, opened it again, and the new game was still there.

I hope I was of help!! Smile

No glitches after several restarts so confirmed working. Though it looks like EA still hasn't worked out the bugs in the EP mysteriously not loading with the game. Had to restart 3 times just to get SP packs to load and show, on my 5th restart with no GTW EP in sight. That has got to be fixed because that is annoying. Seems like a DRM issue where they have overkilled the DRM to the point it's effecting a lot of people. Including legit versions.

Hi! What Mac are you using? My stuff pack still don't show. My friend copied the wrapper and the SP showed on her laptop. I was thinking that maybe it's the laptop itself. She has an MBP, mine's an Air.

So I've been trying what you all have said and after I try to install Origin on the Wine Wrapper it gives me the error message and that Origin has to close and then goes to a black screen and nothing loads. Or the other half of the time the Sims main screen is all glitchy.
I don't know what to doooo.
Anyone found a solution or having the same issues??

Happens to me. What I do is, I click cmd + tab to go back to my desktop and then click it again to go back to Sims. I repeat it again (and again if I have to) until I enter Sims.

Yeah,

I haven't posted on this forum in like a year and half and I just want to say that THIS is SUCH an underrated post... I have been working with the Ultimate Fix and temp Ultimate Fix step by step repeatedly for the past 6 hours and this is the only thing that has worked for me since wanting to update to the new Kitchen Stuff pack. I've tested this about 5 times and its worked.

I forgot my username to this forum and everything and had to figure it out just so I can thank you for the amazingly helpful information. I'm dying of tiredness, but since the game is up and running I will die for another 12 more hours Smile hahah

Thank you muchos!! You're THE BEST!!!!!!!!

Please, moderators, commend this little tip for mac users.

Hello again,

I'm glad to hear you got it working, however, I already stated the team's official stance/position on this matter here:
http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t20524p40-a-guide-on-how-to-install-the-sims-4-addons-dlc-on-mac-using-wine#144410

We (still) do not endorse the method using "WINE", and until further notice we will not be able to give support on Sims 4 + Mac OS. And the reason you were struggling initially is because that crack/game is intended for use in Windows OS only.

//EDIT

For future reference, if you still know the e-mail address that you used here when registering, then you can use the "I forgot my password" option that shows up below the log-in prompt. Enter that e-mail address then, and in the e-mail that you'll receive you will see both your username, as well as a (new) password for the forum. Smile

Hey , can I ask you a question? What mac do you have , because I do all the steps as this link you posted says and I get an error when I try to open up the game. I have an imac 10.6.8. Also , you installed all the expansions available here and the fix to the same wrapper? And finally, why do I need to install origin, because when I tried to install it with the internet on I got an error and when I tried to install it with the internet off it said that I need the internet to install it. What should I do? Please can anyone help me ?  Why.

Hey! I'm new here! Hi!
I tried the Origin trick. Installed it and ran Sims4 (I didn't move the Sims4 folder from Electronic arts to Program Files). The first time it loaded up until the point where theres a introduction to the new packs. Then it hung.
Closed and tried again and it worked up until the plumbob loading screen where the game hangs. Restarted my MAc and still no luck.

Then I tried moving Sims 4 out of Electronic arts folder to Program Files and now the game doesn't open at all. (still get the origin needs to close error)
Put the folder back and still game doesn't open.

Any remedy for this?
Please help! I don't know how to uninstall origin and get even the base game back!

Alright, so i understand MAC doesnt get "support" here, but I know there have been several posts concerning this "origin not running" problem that i cant seem to work thru.  I've finally found myself here, but with no success.  I've downloaded the Origin.exe from origin.com and tried to install it in my "wrapper", but when i "choose executable" it only takes a few seconds and it tells me "origin can only be installed on windows 7 or later, update blah blah".  Now, do i need to use a specific version of "wineskin", or do i need an older origin.exe that i cant seem to find?  any help would be fantastic.  I'm at the same point as most other commenters, i have "get to work" installed, but get the origin not running error after i install anything else.

That's actually an issue that happens since the last update of Origin, which dropped the support for pre-Windows 7 versions. So we need to find an older version of the Origin installer.

I'll update this post if I find anything.

I'm going to backup the installer just in case it gets deleted IAmSoHappyEmergahwd

Re: The Sims 4 - "Origin not Running" Issue with latest Fix - In Wine Wrapper

Post by angellion on Mon 24 Oct 2016, 12:14

Hello,

So i am running into the same issues but i have a different ending:

- Base game + get to work launches, no problem
- Installing get together + the ultimate fix causes the origin message. Game doesn't launch
- I did install origin (oldest version of the installer, I found it myself but I assume that's the same as the one posted above)
- The game launches after the origin error message, I can play.

Except : ALL THE PACKS and EXPANSIONS are not there. I cannot load any of the extra content, I am told that I don't have it.

Anyone else having this issue? Can you please confirm that when you do the origin install trick, you are supposed to have everything?

Thanks a lot for your help

Smile

Did you find a fix for this? having the exact same problem right now...

Hey there.
Just a suggestion as this happened to me before when I tried installing the Ultimate Fix.
What I did was I installed a different version of the game. In this case I downloaded Fitgirl Repack's Sims 4 and installed in using the same method. The Ultimate Fix is pre-installed and it's running the latest version of it.

Originally once I installed it I got the "Origin is not running" error as well, but when I used this solution and installed Origin in the same wrapper it actually worked.

Give it a shot if you want, might work for you too!

Cheers!

Hey guys, I got as far as this but now it's telling me to "Please update your game via Origin to play."

I can't seem to find anyone else addressing this in the forums... have any of you encountered it?

Thanks!

Alright, the solution should be pretty simple.
Just go into your Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and delete the file called "GameVersion.txt".

Cheers!
