Laucher won't start (says there was an error and that I have v. 0.0.0.0)

Post by metaleloi666 on Sun 02 Oct 2011, 17:38

Hello,

I had the SIMS 3 based installed on my computer. Also, the World Adventures and Ambitions expansions. All 3 were cracked, working fine and didn't come from this site. Then, I downloaded all other expansions from here, as well as the the ultimate Sims 3 fix. I proceeded to install all the stuff I got from here, then applied the Sims 3 fix. The result: the launcher says "there was an error during startup, see the logfile" or something similar as my OS and the game are in French. And what I can see about the version installed is 0.0.0.0. I googled this problem (both in French and English) and didn't find a working solution. I also searched this forum.

So, I figured I should uninstall all that was Sims 3 related on the computer and start all over again. I re-installed the base game (didn't crack it), the game updated itself to the latest version in the process, then I tried the launcher, and all seemed fine (no error message, good version showed). Then, as per the installation guide in the Sims 3 fix, I installed the Town Life Stuff (got from here). Then I tried the launcher, and the error message as well as the wrong version # came back. I then installed the Generations expansion (from here as well) with the same result. That was before I tried to apply the fix solutions, but it didn't change a thing, the launcher still won't launch and will show the wrong version. Then, I uninstalled both Town Life Stuff and Generations, but still the launcher won't start and has the error message even with just the base game installed (which seemed to work well before I installed TLS and Generations).

What can I do now? I uninstalled the base game again. I thought it was maybe because the base game didn't come from here, but I just read a message on the forum saying it was not supposed to be a problem.

My OS is Windows XP.

Thanks for any help.

(P.S. I don't play Sims 3 myself, it's for my 13-yeard old daughter. I told her she will have all the new expansions from her game, but right now, she can't even play anymore as I was forced to uninstall all of it...)

//EDIT

Well, I had some time on my hands this afternoon and decided to give it another try. So, I re-installed the base game, and then I manually updated it with the 1.24 update found here (that's the different action I took compared to yesterday).

Then, I proceeded to install all other expansions I had, applied the Sims 3 fix, and now all seems to work fine. The only thing is that is says that it can't connect to EA Downloader everytime I start the launcher, but I just close the pop-up window and the game works fine. Should I install Origin? Is there a need to register it to make it work? I'm not too crazy to give a working e-mail address for a game that is cracked on my computer. Do you guys are registered with Origin?

Thanks.

Hello,
Good to hear you worked it out.
You don't really need EA downloadmanager or Origin and you definitely don't have to register with Origin. Its only needed to patch the game but as you have experienced, patching manually is easy enough.
That may have been the original problem, a missing patch.
Don't hesitate to post if you ever run into problems again.

Hello,

Though, if you wish to get rid of the "Can't connect to EA Download Manager", just install Origin. You never need to use it anyway, only when you'd like to update.
