Can't uninstall Sims 4.

Post by fancypants11 on Sun 19 Jun 2016, 22:59

so I read the other threads about uninstall issues and they don't seem to be the same as mine.

I tried to uninstall sims 4 with the regular "uninstall programs" on windows before I read in the other thread that I should have used the "your uninstaller" program (my bad) and now it isn't listed in the 'uninstall programs' anymore, so I can't even try to uninstall it again. I also tried using 'your uninstaller' but it can't find the sims 4 either.

But the game still runs when I open it.

please help!

Hello and welcome to the forum,  Very Happy
First let's back-up your save files (if you have any, yet).

-In Windows XP, Vista, and 7 click on the start button and select "Documents" or "My Documents."
-In Windows 8/8.1 there are several ways to get to Documents. I prefer using Windows key + E and selecting "Documents" from the left pane.
2. Open the Electronic Arts folder, and then The Sims 4
3. Inside of The Sims 4 folder, locate "saves."
4. Move the saves folder to your desktop or an external device to ensure they are not affected by the uninstall.

If The Sims 4 is saved to the default location (the C: drive), then follow the steps below. If you have it saved to another drive, you may need to do a bit of digging to find the installation folder.

1.  In Windows XP, Vista, and 7 click on the start button and select "Computer" or "My Computer."
-In Windows 8/8.1, I would recommend using the Windows key + E to pull up "This PC" and selecting your C: drive from there.
2. Navigate to the Program Files folder
-Open Program Files (x86) instead, if you have a 64-bit system
3. Select the The Sims 4 folder
4. Right-click and delete The Sims 4 folder.

Now let's head over to the registry. You can access the Registry Editor by holding down the Windows key + R and typing "regedit" (without quotes) into the Run prompt.

1. Back-up your registry (very important) by clicking "File" and then "Export"
2. Make sure that the Export Range is set to "All" instead of "Selected Branch" before naming and saving the file.
3. Your cursor may become a loading symbol while the registry is exported. Once it has returned to normal, proceed with the next steps.

Let's start deleting the registry keys.

1. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder by clicking the triangle next to the folder icon.
2. Expand the SOFTWARE folder.
-For 64-bit systems, expand Wow6432Node
3. Expand the Maxis folder.
4. Right-click and delete The Sims 4 folder, if it appears
5. Collapse the Maxis folder.
-If you are on a 64-bit system, you should stay inside the Wow6432Node folder for the next steps
6. Expand the Microsoft folder.
7. Expand the Windows folder.
8. Expand the CurrentVersion folder.
9. Expand the Uninstall folder.
10. Delete the following folder if it appears: (in brackets) 48EBEBBF-B9F8-4520-A3CF-89A730721917

Empty your Recycle Bin and restart your PC. If you have a cleaning software that you know and trust, run that before your restart. You can download Ccleaner and clean registry leftovers,  if there are any, for The Sims 4 and other applications. The Sims 4 is now completely uninstalled from your system and ready for a fresh install!

Hello,

If the program was un-installed already with Windows, then there is no need to use "Your Un-installer". The reason you did not "see" The Sims 4 when using Your Un-installer was because Windows already removed the registry entries of the game. But yes, in general it's better to use Your Un-installer straight away.

Can we consider your problem being "solved", or do you have any other questions ? Smile

The Sims 4 is really easy to remove, unlike The Sims 3 or The Sims 2. And in fact, most "modern" pirated games can be deleted by simply removing the install folder. There are overall fewer and fewer registry entries in pirated games, meaning you can even easily move the install folders between different file/network/computer locations, and still play the game.
