Sims 4 Mac WINE mods and custom content

Post by Chlo55 on Wed 16 Aug 2017, 13:58

I've downloaded and installed the Sims 4 along with all expansion packs on my mac using wineskin following the guide posted on here, however I am now having issues with installing custom content. There is no mods folder and when I have created one and added a resource.cfg file and copied in a package file I am still unable to get any custom content to install. I have tried putting the mods folder in different locations, but I still cannot get it to work.

I was just wondering if anyone else who has downloaded sims 4 on a mac using wineskin has been able to install cc or if anyone else has had this issue.

Hi there,

The mods folder by default is at Documents\EA\The Sims 4. You should not move anything inside around, except if you want to back them up someplace else. If the mods had been properly placed, when in-game, go to options and make sure the enabled cc/scripted mods are checked.

Hey,

I don't have a documents/EA/the sims 4 location. Because I'm on a mac I had to download sims using wineskin so a documents folder doesn't actually exist. Instead, all the sims 4 is located in program files WhatDidUJustCallMe?

Ah, is that so. I thought the locations would be similar at least. Then are your saves located at Program Files as well?

Hey, yeah from what I can tell the saves are also located in the program files, which is why I thought placing the mods folder in there would work.. WhatDidUJustCallMe?

Ah I see. Try to create a new folder under your MAC Documents section. So, like Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods. And try to place at least one CC (preferably hair since it's the easiest to check), and then run the game. If you are able to add a new .txt file in mac, do so in the mods folder and add the items below inside the .txt file.

If not, you can also try to create a mods folder in under where the saves are found.

Code:
Priority 500

PackedFile *.package

PackedFile */*.package

PackedFile */*/*.package

PackedFile */*/*/*.package

PackedFile */*/*/*/*.package

PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*.package

Did you check your Macs documents folder? Because my game created an EA folder for me (outside of Wine) and inside theres a mods and saves folder.

Chlo and all,

it's only a matter of Operating System Semantics.
instead of "documents/EA/the sims 4," try reaching "Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4." if you are using OS X past version 10.9 (Mavericks), the key combo to access the Documents folder is (from the Finder): Shift + Command + O. there you should find your Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods folder.
further, The Sims Forum has an article about Mods subfolders: in case you organize your Mods and CC in subfolders, it's a good idea to delete the original "Resource.cfg" file that resides inside the Mod Folder; the game will regenerate it the next time you have it opened.
finally: under "Game Options --> Other," you should tick on the option "Script Mods."

i hope i could be of any help.
