Sims 3 Crash Problem

Post by kraken001 on Sat 28 Jan 2012, 08:21

So I downloaded the Sims 3 and the Generations expansion pack, however it just keeps crashing.

I looked at the crash fix thread, and did everything it said, initially I didn't have any custom content, I added all the .exe's to the DEP, I changed the settings for my graphics card, I set my graphics to low in the Sims 3, I lowered the resolution of the game but alas it still keeps freezing every 5 minutes and ultimately crashing.

I even tried the Ultimate fix.rar and it still doesn't work.

Can someone please help me?

Hello,

Check whether your PC can run the base game and all the expansions: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/
(Check them one by one)

Before installing Sims 3 I used that site, and it has given me Fast for every single expansion pack, so I'm still not sure what's wrong with it

Hello,
Does it just crash, or are you getting a particular error code?

It works fine for the first seven minutes or so, and then it freezes and eventually crashes, I don't seem to get an error code but occasionally get the blue screen of death

Hello,

A BSoD is usually caused by a hardware failure.
You might want to open up your PC case and re-check everything. (Is the RAM placed correctly, everything tightened?)

Hello,
Make sure you have the latest fix, note that the fix was updated a few weeks ago after Master Suite stuff was released. The crack from the stuff pack is no good, you need the fix.
If that doesn't fix it, please open a new topic for better support.

If you are getting blue screens it would be highly unlikely that it has something to do with the game itself. Rather it sounds like either you have a corrupt driver, or one that is just not handling the game right or your direct X might have gone wonky.

So I would say try searching for information on your particular video card to see if there are any issues associated with the sims, as well as the drivers for your sound card. If this does not seem to affect things, try tweaking/reinstalling direct X to see if this helps at all!

Hello,

BSoD's are also often caused by failure in hardware. E.g. not correctly connected RAM etc.

Re: Sims 3 Crash Problem

Post by BlueSprite on Sat 18 Feb 2012, 15:26

Oh I'm not doubting this, but what I found kind of strange is that the OP seems to only be getting a BSOD when playing the Sims 3. (for about five minutes)

So if it were a BSOD related to ram would there not be a lot of BSoDs and freezing in general while playing any other game, or using any other program that eventually ends up using the bad ram stick?

Now I could be wrong on this aspect since I definitely do not know everything there is to know about computers, but I just wonder given what the OP said.

*Edit* speaking about accessing bad parts which can lead to a crash. If you are getting an issue ONLY with the sims 3 there might be a chance as well that the area that the Sims 3 installed to on the HDD could also be going bad? So when it tries to access it, it ends up crashing. So try running a hdd test/scan in addition to a RAM test to see if that finds anything.

Hello,

BSoD's can be caused by hundreds of things. But if the problem, for example, persists after reinstalling Windows or something, it's most likely caused by a hardware failure.
There's no harm in opening your case and check all connections.
