The Sims 4 alternative installers (install DLCs in any order you want!)

Post by anadius1 on Sat 07 Apr 2018, 19:35

I made a set of installers for The Sims 4 to make updating the game easier. Everything is based on G4TW releases so if you wish to install everything - you get exactly the same files.

Even though I call them installers they don't add entry in Add/Remove Programs. Simply remove DLC or game directory if you wish to uninstall it.

Use cases

If you want to have up-to-date game:

  • I don't have The Sims 4 installed - install base game and full patch, after that you can install DLCs in any order you want,
  • I downloaded the game from somewhere else than G4TW - same as above, just skip the base game,
  • I downloaded the game from G4TW - install incremental or full patch, then you can install new DLC (if there are any).

Notes:

  • Full Patch can be installed on any version of the game, doesn't matter if you have any DLCs or not,
  • Incremental Patch can be installed on specific version of the game (just like those small patches from The Sims 3),
  • DLC installer will tell you if you're running lower version of the game than required by that DLC,
  • language-changer is included in base game, full patch and incremental patch,
  • dlc-toggler is included in full patch and incremental patch,
  • To install DLC in bulk I made dlc-installer,
  • Source code to whole project (including 3 programs listed above, installer code, installer maker script, icons and how to make them) can be found here.

Bumping the thread because the OP requested feedback from users about the guide above.

Thread has been moved out temporarily from "The Sims 4 tips & tricks". And you can post feeback/questions, for the time being.

in "Latest full patch section", second file: "TS4 Patch 1.41.42.1020-2.bin"
has different sizes across the mirrors, one has 1.9GB and the other is 500MB, which one is the right link?

Whoops, seems like Sendit upload is corrupted. 1,9GB is the correct one.

//EDIT

First incremental patch added. I'll upload full one later.

I'm uploading separate downloads for the Sims 4 version 1.42.30.1020 folders.
Once you have downloaded the base game, being:
__Installer
Delta
Data
Game
Soundtrack
Support

You can then add (or remove) any DLC you wish.

Once installed you can add future updates/DLC's from G4TW by copying only the folders from the Update/DLC to your existing folders in the install directory of your The Sims 4

My updates and official G4TW updates are quite different. You can treat my incremental updates like G4TW updates, but "compressed". Let me explain:

  • Full Patch - you can apply it on any version of the game, it contains whole files so you won't get any conflicts
  • Incremental Patch - you can apply it only on previous version of the game (1.41.42.1020 in this case), it contains xdelta files (much smaller in size but they need some source file - game files from version 1.41.42.1020 in this case)
  • G4TW updates - you can apply it only on (several) previous version(s) of the game (update 1.42.30.1020 can be applied on My First Pet Stuff [1.41.38.1020] or 1.41.42.1020), it contains whole files changed between two versions of the game

So in your case update from G4TW won't be enough. It doesn't contain all files that changed between Get To Work (1.5.139.1020) and 1.42.30.1020.

tl;dr
Get full patch.

@Tarac wrote:I'm uploading separate downloads for the Sims 4 version 1.42.30.1020 folders.
That's exactly what my Full Patches contain.

@anadius1
When I understand your system correctly in the case of @kimoo, he/she must do following:

1. Download and install your base game (as the base game of kimoo is lower than 1.41.42.1020)
2. download and install the required DLC's
3. download and partially install full patch 1.42.30.1020

By installing I mean copy folders from the downloads to the install folder

please correct me if I'm wrong

Re: The Sims 4 alternative installers (install DLCs in any order you want!)

Post by Tarac on Mon 23 Apr 2018, 15:42

Why make it so difficult/complicated @anadius1 ?
Simply upload all the folders from your install directory of The Sims 4 version 1.42.30.1020
Tell your "followers" that they at least need these 6 folders to play the base game:

__Installer
Data
Delta
Game
Soundtrack
Support

In total 13 GB.

Then they can add whatever DLC they wish.

Future updates from G4TW can be added by copying only the required folders (incl. those mentioned here above) from the update-download to the install folder.

Example of downloadcloud with basegame selected for downloading
folder Support is also ticked but cannot be seen in this "shot"

Yup, you're wrong. @kimoo already has Get To Work (1.5.139.1020) installed so they just need to install my latest full patch. 4,55GB of download and that's it.

That's what confuses me, the Full patch exe or the 3 .bin downloads ?
The old versions 1.41.42.1030 first and then 1.42.30.1030 or dies 1.42.30 alreay include 1.41.42 ?

In my opnion it's all so vague.
take the base game, it contains of 1 .exe and 4.bin downloads.
Do I have to download all 5 or does the .exe install the 4 .bins ?

I think (or am almost sure) the .bin files are part of the full patch.

Though I have a different concern here @anadius1, those DLCs you uploaded...wouldn't we need to check with every new official update, whether there are updates for the DLC as well? Because from time to time those DLC files themselves get updates too, and you'd need to re-upload new versions here.

The method is sound and there should be no issues, the way I see it, but maybe try adding some disclaimer about the DLC files regarding their patch version; would be my idea at least.

Exe and 3 .bin files. It's all part of the same installer, as @The_gh0stm4n said.

All DLC updates are in "Delta" directory which is included in full and incremental (in form of xdelta files) patch. I tested (compared md5 hash) all files between all versions released by G4TW to make sure they never change. Unless EA changes something, my installers will work just fine. Very Happy

Post by kimoo on Mon 23 Apr 2018, 16:55

@anadius1
@Tarac

first of all i downloaded the base game and it works fine (version1.0.732.2 0)

the folder of the game contain only  4 folders
data
installer
game
suppoty

then i downloaded (get to work )dlc its the only one i want and it works fine
now the version become (1.5.139.1020)

the folders now
installer
data
delta
ep01
fp01
Gp01
game
support

because i need to play mods i have to download the last avalible update which is   (
1.42.30.1020)
i installed only the folder i need from the update as @tarac told me
data
installer
delta
ep01
Gp01
game
support

but the game works fine until the create charachter  when i finish creating charachter
i cannot select an aspiration (the aspiration is obvious but when i click its blank)
i searched for solution every where and i discovered that the problem from the update
because some files from update interferes with the dlc files

when i gave up i decided to play only with  base game and update (i need mods more than dlc)
when i installed the base game and the last update only(i installed only the files i need)
data
installer
game
support

but i got new problem the game works fine until i create houshold and and now the aspiration problem is solved but nothing shows up in the select world  (there are no worlds)

so i think all the problem in the update  now i will try the full patch i hope it works
when i finish downloading it i will apply it to the game

Why God. Why God. Why God. Why God. Why God. Why God. Why God.

I noticed they do change the things in the Delta-folder, with almost every update, mostly the ClientDeltaBuild0.package, SimulationDeltaBuild0.package and version.ini, under the individual DLC subfolders. I'm not sure to what extent if any there are "serious" changes to these files, but I do notice differences, when helping to compile the official G4TW patches.

But yes, go ahead.

Aadmien liekesss!

(^if the Adminman was still there, he would 1000% approve of this).

@kimoo If your base game, get to work DLC and update were all from G4TW releases then yeah, there's no way that would work. Installation guide says clearly to install all G4TW releases in specific order.

My full patch should most probably solve the problem (if it says that you have newer or the same version of the game installed - just delete Game\Bin folder and try again). Let me know if it works. Wink

Almost every update or new DLC contains new items in the folders Data, Delta, __Install and minor changes in he EP, GP and SP folders.

When we follow the general rules of installing G4TW DLC's, most people are updated upto the latatest available version and a new update is simply installed.

With this alternative way of installing we MUST know what the version of the last alternative was and then install the incremental updates first before installing a new G4TW update/DLC.

DOWNLOAD SIMS 4 PACKS AT CHOICE

Some people do not wish to install all packs, mostly because they don't have enough diskspace available.
For version 1.42.30.1020 I created an alternative download where you can simply pick the DLC's you want.
You can open the folders HERE (link removed)

THESE FOLDERS YOU MUST HAVE TO PLAY AT LEAST THE BASE GAME INCL TODDLERS.

__Installer
Data
Delta
Game
Soundtrack
Support

NOW YOU CAN ADD DLC'S IN ANY ORDER

Problem:
When you start the game it will come up with the message that uninstalled DLC's will download. That of course is not true, so you can just click that message away.
Also it shows that ALL packs are installed and that is not true as well.

FUTURE UPDATES

When new updates and/or DLC's become available you can download these, evt. extract with Winrar and ONLY copy the folders that you already have in your install folder of the Sims 4 from the downloaded update/DLC to your install folder.

At that stage the folder should contain
__Installer
Data
Delta
Game
Support

the base game doesnt contain delta
only the dlc and the update

Download the Delta folder from HERE.

EDIT:

When you tick (select) the folders:
__Installer
Data
Delta
Game
Soundtrack
Support
EP01
FP01
GP01

and then click on Download, you'll have a Winrar file called Download.rar that contains the base game + Get Together for version 1.42.30.1030
Extract with winrar, delete the existing folder Game in your install folder and copy the extracted folders to your install folder The Sims 4
