A serious error has occurred.[SOLVED]

Post by krillinfan on Sat 18 Feb 2012, 21:32

Hello all, I apologize if this issue has been resolved previously, but I have been pouring over forums since Thursday trying to find an answer.

Just did a fresh install of TS3 and all expansions/stuff packs, using your handy install guide.

Updated to patch 1.29 and cracked using the ultimate fix (very happy with this by the way, I've recommended it several times already)

I can load the game fine, and start a new sim/new town without any troubles.

However, as soon as I attempt to load any save, I get the "a serious error has occurred when loading XXXX"

I have no custom content, I have tried all the different towns (just base towns, no downloaded). I have attempted to use the ErrorTrap mod.
I have also attempted a clean install of the base game. Sadly after all my efforts I still have no luck. After trying for nearly 3 days I'm at my wits end,
hopefully this issue was solved already and I look like a giant fool, if so please mock me and point me in the right direction :-)
If not, I hope someone can help, I need my sims fix ^_^.

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

I'm sorry for the late reply, I somehow missed your topic.
Please wait for Lady ElDi, I'm sure she can provide more information regarding this issue.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Hello,
Did you at some point do the win95 compatibility? Even if this was before reinstalling?

Hello,
I was simply wondering if you had used win95 compatibility prior to uninstalling/reinstalling because it has been known to cause this error in some OS.
Lets see.. What else did you do besides this fresh install of TS3, any hardware/software/driver changes?

Hello,
That's what I thought, I had the same thing. It (win95 compatibility) doesn't seem to work for everyone.
Anyway, I think your Sims are still in win95 compatibility in your registry despite the reinstall. This page guides you how to undo it. Its for winZIP, but the process is exactly the same for The Sims 3.

Would i need to do a complete reinstall after clearing the registry? or just the base game?

Hello,
You don't have to reinstall at all since you're only undoing the win95 compatibility in the registry.
