Sims 3 black screen

Sims 3 black screen

I acquired the sims 3 from the pirate bay (/torrent/6582941/The_sims_3_complete) and I used the latest patches from y'all's site as directed. I only have through Town Life. (e: I did NOT patch the store...why bother when I don't use it?) When I attempt to run the game (because let's face it, I really want to play the Sims...), it looks like it's going to start but it stops at a total black screen with only my mouse showing. I have to ctrl+alt+del to get out of it, and kill the process from there.

Help appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smile

Hello,

Is that after starting with the launcher, or when you use TS3W.exe in the base game bin?
This "complete" torrent, is it a modified installer?

Ah wait, you may not have an up to date game, or an incompatible crack. Try this:
Download and install the manual patch.
Download and apply the fix.

I applied the ultimate fix already (prior to starting this thread), and my base game is fully up to date (again, prior to starting the thread). It's happening when I start using the launcher. I haven't tried using TS3W.exe yet, though.

Update: Yes it happens when using TS3W.exe as well. (sigh) I'll try the manual patch right now, I guess.

When I try to apply the patch (run as administrator) it gives me this error:

Hello,

Redownload the patch with Internet Explorer and don't pause the download or touch it at all until it's finished.

I get the same error. Should I try to completely reinstall the Sims and run the patch instead of step 11 of the fix this time?

Hello,

I don't think you'll have to reinstall. You can try to update with the launcher in stead, there's no guarantee it'll work though. Just apply the entire fix to try it.

The launcher says there's no updates available, though, and my game is completely up to date. I applied the entire fix after installing and updating the first time and I was getting this black screen.

Edit: Uninstalled Generations and Town Life Stuff and it's showing one update available. Going to uninstall more and see if I can get more updates available, then reinstall after each update.

Hello,

It's best to use the manual patch here: http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t1870-can-t-update-the-sims-3-to-v133-fix-manual-patch
Even if the launcher says you're already on the latest version and even when the manual patch tells you you're already on the latest version, still use it.

Are you sure you didn't touch the download during the download process? Not pausing it etc.?
Which browsers have you tried already?

Yes. My internet has this annoying tendency to give out sometimes and luckily it didn't go down during the download...and I didn't mess with the download either. I've downloaded it using Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Hello,

Please try Mozilla Firefox too, just to be sure. (Or use another PC - preferably outside your network - and then copy it to your PC, using an USB stick or something like that)
