Sims 3: Materializing Materials.[SOLVED]

Post by saratogaroad on Fri 22 Jun 2012, 18:50

Game installed properly, without any invalid file or "insert disc" errors. It loads fine and everything works. I can make sims. I can build houses/play the game. But when I go into Create a Style, the game gives me the loading icon thing that says "materializing materials" and doesn't move from that. The plumbob will spin and the circle will go around and around, but nothing happens even after an hour or longer has passed. I can't access the menu, be it by keyboard commands or by clicking on it despite still having a mobile in-game cursor, and I have to eventually quit the game using the Task Manager.

Now, here's what I have done: I followed the Ultimate Fix to the letter. I patched up to 1.34, using the manual patch provided on this forum in place of Step 11 in the Ultimate Fix. When that didn't work, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything, again following the Ultimate Fix exactly as the pdf instructed, and the problem keeps happening. I have no mods or CC currently installed that could be causing this since all the info I was able to dig up said it was because of a bad pattern, so I deleted everything. This issue continues to happen and I am at my wits end about it. It was working fine until yesterday and the only thing I installed since were hair colors from the exchange that have also since been removed. This is a factory clean game, near as I can figure, so I have zero idea what's doing this.

Does anyone have a fix for this? There aren't any other patches for me to update to and I refuse to install Sweet Treats unless there are no other options, but I have no idea what else to try. I've spent the past 12 hours trying to fix this and...nothing. Please help me!

None. I was, but it was all removed in the reinstall and I didn't put it back into the game with the launcher or any other application. This is a clean install; no CC, mods, or store content be it acquired through here or the actual sims store.

Hello,

When you uninstalled, did you also have setup remove your The Sims 3 folder from documents?

I did indeed. I didn't clean any remaining files from the registry, however, if those would have been an issue, but The Sims 3 folder was gone from both My Documents and Program Files x86

Hello,

You would've noticed if the registry hadn't been cleared properly though, I was thinking more along the lines of cache files. But since that folder was gone, that's not it either.

I'm kind of at a loss at this point, but I'll give it some more thought.
I'm also moving this topic.

With this latest reinstall, I deleted all the cache files, both in Documents/The Sims 3 folder and in the Documents/The Sims 3/DCBackup folder. Even with those files gone, it still gave me the issue. I'd understand if it was bad CC, but with none in any of the games files or a mod folder, I just...don't know.

Still, thank you for trying to help. I'll be awaiting any ideas you might have.

Hello,

I found absolutely nothing that could cause this other than cc. So I posted this issue on to another forum that mostly deals with mods (not modthesims, they don't get much further than "it has to be cc") so we'll wait for their response.
Which expansions/stuffs are you using?

Every pack except for Sweet Treats. That is to say, games 1 through 12, as it were. Version 13 is attached to Sweet Treats and that is not getting installed.

I did, however, find out that the CC I thought had been removed by moving it away from the game directories and unistalling it via the launcher before the first uninstall was still showing up as "installed" in TSRMerlin. I've manually gone through my CC and uninstalled everything using Merlin, and uninstalled the games again. I'm going to follow modthesims instructions and remove any remaining files in the registry, then retry the installation as said in the Ultimate Fix. Here's hoping that's what it was!

SUCCESS! Hammertime I'm not sure exactly what pattern among all my CC that it was, but uninstalling every last bit of it via Merlin fixed the problem! Create a Style mode now works in both Build and Create a Sim modes! All patterns and objects that shipped with the games are still intact, the installs were clean, the game is fully functional(minus Simport but who cares about that!?), and I'm all set to carefully replace all my CC. Now I know what did it, so there will be no more patterns in houses for this girl.

Thanks for your help, Lady ElDi! I sincerely appreciate it. <3
