Hello,

Ok so we may assume that it's no longer related to mods/cc packages.
Have you tried any of the crashing solutions described here before?

Though I removed any recently downloaded mods, the game still crashes. When I remove the entire folder, the game loads up fine.

Hello,

Did you add to the packages you were using before, and then removed from? If so, there could be a leftover file. Do you keep a backup of your packages?

I have to tell you this. Many mods might have a small chance of being a core mod. When that occurs it means that when one installed a core-mod there can't be another core-mod in your folder. That will crash your game too.
By the way, I might just be lucky. But in total I have 260 downloads. By the way, where do you download your custom content from? There are many sites, but the trustable ones and amazing ones are these:

http://xmsims.com
http://thesimsresource.com
http://modthesims.info
http://anubis360.blogspot.nl (don't mind the .nl! It's just English (:! )
http://anubis360.livejournal.com

There are great sites where you need to pay in order to get downloads, but just use the livejournal.com one, that one will retexture pay downloads so you can just download those for free!

By the way, a must know tip for ModTheSims, some mods / downloads will tell you with which version they are made, so, don't download downloads which have been abandoned for a long time.
I think I'll make a topic with great website for downloading! Smile
By the way, updating your resource.cfg in the Mods folder might just help you too Smile

I tried loading up a new game, not my previous save, and the game loaded up fine. However, all my cc seems to be missing, even though all of it is in the folder. This is really strange.

OK, as someone who has experienced almost every glitch in the known universe that mods and CC can throw at you. Very Happy Here are the best steps to check your CC and Mods after applying a new game update.

1. Before installing the update, make sure that none of the Sims in your save game(s) are performing an action controlled by a Mod (i.e. NRaas Master Controller). The best way to make sure is to use the cheat ResetSim * to reset all the Sims in the save game(s) to their safe areas (home lot)

2. Copy your Mods folder to a safe location (i.e. the Desktop), then remove the entire mods folder from the game file.

3. While the update is being applied, go to the Mod/CC creators site(s) and check for updated versions. Follow any instructions about applying their update/replacing the old item/mod with newest version.

4. For CC/Mods that don't have an update and/or are no longer updated you have the following options.

A. If some of your CC has no update, and it is pre-Pets, you an run it through TSR RigFix (Note: Patterns do not to be run through this as they have no .rig settings). This will update the .rig settings of the items to work with the new system.

B. If the Mod(s) you use don't have an update, your best bet is to try them one at a time in game. Make a note of which ones work well and which ones cause problems, no matter how minor the problem is as 10 tiny problems can result in one huge problem.

I have a favorite App for testing mods out without taking the chance of crashing is called AnyGameStarter which ca be found HERE. This app allows you to bypass the launcher to play the game and, most importantly, run multiple profiles for the Sims3. This way you can test new content without ruining your main game, then when your sure its working like it should, you move it to your main game's mod folder.

C. ADVANCED USERS ONLY!! Manually look at what game source file(s) is/are affected by the mod(s) you use and make sure they don't conflict with each other by editing the same source file and that the same call structure is still used. Any mods found to be in conflict will have to be edited or discarded.

4. Once your done finding which CC/Mods will work with the new patch/update your ready to start combining package files. Here's my rule fo thumb for combining and testing packages.

A. Combine CC packages by type (i.e. surfaces, plants, etc). This does 2 things; one it makes it easier to check the CC and make sure it has the right category marker(s) so that that IGottaHaveIt shelf shows up in surfaces and not in plants and two, the game seems to laod the items faster when separated this way.

B. Never Ever combine Mods/Overrides unless the author states that they can be combined with other Mods/Overrides. Also Never Ever run 2 or more Core Mods, they will always conflict and can damage the game beyond repair.

C. Keep combined package file sizes at or under 500 MB each. Because of the way Windows addresses file access (Read/Write) any file over 500 MB takes 3x as long to load, so if you have 30 package files that are 1 GB each you'll find it takes several minutes for the game to load, whereas if you have 100 packages @ 497 MB each the game loads much faster. Also, for the same Windows reasons, try to keep your total package count at 100 or less.

D. Introduce your newly combined packages into the game, one at a time, using the Probation Folder in your Mods folder. This way you dont have to look for 1 file name among 60 to remove it should the game reject the package. Once your sure it works, move it to the Packages folder and try the next new package.

Yeah I've basically run through all that already in the past. Everything was running fine until recently.

//EDIT

Any ideas guys? I opened the launcher and none of my CC is showing up there either.

Only .sims3pack CC will show up in the launcher (i.e. only CC installed through the launcher), if you have CC in .package format they will not show up in the launcher as they are loaded from the resource.config file when the game itself loads.

If the CC you have is in Sims3Pack format then you will have to reinstall those items in order for them to show up. (caveat: If you have any mods and/or CC in .package format that overrides the default items you should remove it as it will usually conflict)

I did delete them so that they do not conflict and thus I do not have them to reinstall.. does the fact that none of it is suddenly showing up in my game mean that I lost all of it? Why isn't it showing up?

So I started a BRAND NEW game with a new Sims 3 folder, new CC. I used Sims 3 Pack MultiInstaller and then S3PE to repackage all the sims3packs. The game loaded up fine until I went into CAS and edited pants, in which case I got a "materializing materials" message, which proceeded to never load up. I'm at wits end here, nothing I do will make this forsaken game work.

ARRRGH.

That error means you have a conflict in one or more of your CC, when this happened to me it was because I had multiple copies of the same patterns in several of the packages. I use Delphi's Dashboard to check for conflicts. It can be found HERE

I've had this error before and I'm familiar with it. I have the packages repacked and compressed. I can't use DD on that, can I? So I have to go back to the originals and find the error and repack everything again? In the past when I had a similar issue, DD didn't help with the problem because I'd still get the same error even though DD didn't catch anything.

EDIT: just went through DD and deleted any conflicting etc. packages from the mods folder. Ran the game again and it's still giving me the same message. What now?

Can you upload the files and send me the link? If so I'll take a look at them and try to find what is causing the pattern buffer error.

A. The cc is compressed into packages, though I do have the original cc B. There are over 1000 cc files, I'm not sure how I'd upload the files. However, I can send you screenshots of the file names, would that work?

Wow 1000+ files ? Is that the total files compressed together into a lesser amount in game or do you have that many files in the Mods Folder? If so that is a major problem for windows to load, Depending on your system specs the most you should have is 100-150 MAX, anything more than that and Windows will start sending load time-out errors to the game, also you should try to keep package files at or under 500 MB for the same reasons.

Images wont work for testing the files, but you can narrow the files down by testing one at a time in game, any file that loads slow or hangs the game at any point, write the name of the file and, if you can remember, where you got the file from (MTS, Black Pearl Sims, etc.). The most likely culprits are furniture, appliances and clothes as some creators use way too many polygons trying to make the piece look "just right"
