New computer specs help?

Post by scarletrose on Thu 16 Aug 2012, 07:50

Not sure what section to put this in, but anyway feel free to move it to the right one.

I'm looking at getting a new gaming PC, currently the one I'm using is 5 years old, and getting out dated, so I've decided to upgrade to a better, more modern gaming PC. Currently I'm looking at 2 computers, and would like some feed back as to which computer would be a better gaming PC.

The first ones specs are:

Processor

AMD FX-4170 4-CORE BLACK EDITION CPU 4.2 GHz, ,Total L2 Cache

Motherboard
AMD 970 Chipset Motherboard AMD970 + SB950, AM3+, 4x DDR3, 7.1 CH, GbLAN, SATA3, USB3.0, ATX Form Factor

Memory
8GB(2x4GB) Lastest 1333MHz DDR3 Premium Memory

Graphic Display
ATI HD 7750 1GB DDR5 Graphic Card

Audio Sound
Built
in Realtek ALC889 codec High Definition Audio 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel
Support for Dolby Home Theater Support for S/PDIF In/Out Support for CD
In

Hard Disk Drive
1000GB (1TB) Lastest SATA2 7200RMP HDD

Multi Card Reader
Internal Multi Format Card Reader

Optical Drive
22X Dual Layer DVD Rewriter - Supports Dual Layer (8.5GB) - Bundled With Nero Es

the second one is a Dell Inspiron 660 and these are its specs:

Processor: 2nd gen Intel Core i3-2120 (3.30GHz, 1333, 3MB, 2C)
OS: Windows 7 home premium SP1 64 bit
Memory: 4GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 620 1G DDR3 (M117N)
Optical Drive: HH SATA tray load DVD+/-RW

I'm not really sure which one is better? are there any computer savy
people out there who can tell me which one is better? Most things are
the same (like memory, hard drive) but its mainly the graphics card I'll
need to be good, I like to play games such as Skyrim, sims 3, diablo 3,
dayz, etc. Most need pretty good graphic cards to run with nice
graphics.

anyway thanks for any help!
P.S sorry if this is in the wrong section...

Hello,

I'm definitely no expert, but if it's for gaming I suppose I'd go for the first one. It has the better CPU and more RAM. It looks like the other one has the better graphicscard, though I can't seem to find anything about that specific one Facepalm
But if that's an issue, you can always get a different graphicscard some time in the future when you want to upgrade a little.

Hello,

Definitely the first one.
Why not build your own PC?

Hello,

Those are all great and awesome graphic cards, but since I prefer NVIDIA... still, those are all good graphic cards, from what I know.
The 6xx NVIDIA line are currently the newer GPU's.

Hello,

I'm an Nvidia fan myself, so I'd recommend one of those as well.
