importing an existing world file into CAW [SOLVED]

Post by antaress on Sun 02 Sep 2012, 04:47

First of all, hello everyone!
A bit of a weird question... I wonder if it possible to import the actual game file (from the saves folder) back into CAW? I know its possible to import an already existing world like Sunset Valley into CAW.
The thing is, I made my own world in CAW, I made everything apart from the buildings, exported it and I've been playing it ever since. Since then i have added rabbitholes, built several buildings there...all in all I love my world. But now I want to get it back into the CAW the way it is now (and do some minor tweaks here and there) so that i can export it again and have my world in this more complete state for the future. Lately I've started to have problems with my game (error 12), so I wanted to "prepare the grounds" for sort of a fresh start. On the other hand, even if I can do this thing, wouldn't the whatever mess I might have in my current game transfer into my new re-imported world anyway even if I get rid of all the sims and what not?

Or I guess it would be easier to just save all my buildings (yes I really care for those buildings. lol) one by one into the library, "share" in my exchange ( I am playing on a mac and I am using CAW in a windows bootcamp mode, so its like having 2 separate computers) download and then one by one put them into the CAW wold.

Thanks!

Hello,

I would go with option number 2. And I totally get that you want to save those buildings. A lot of time goes into building them.
I'm not even sure you can export your world as it is now, and take it back to CAW. I don't think you can, to be honest.

Lady ElDi is right, there is no way to import the changes you have made in game to CAW. If your wanting to share your world, or just want to back it up, the common practice right now is to include the save game with the world file. Then the world can be installed first and then the save game copied to the saves folder.

You can also do as you were thinking, save the buildings to the Library and then place them in CAW.

Glad we could help.

I'm starting to play around a bit with CAW, so if I find a solution to importing a world that has been edited during game play I'll post it as a tutorial.

Please let us know if we can help you further. Topic Closed.
