Sims won't go upstairs? [SOLVED]

Post by Fruityloopz on Sat 08 Sep 2012, 07:13

So suddenly my sims developed this weird glitch where they walk up the stairs then immediately walk back down again. I don't know what triggered it, considering they have been using the stairs up until now (within the same playthrough even) just fine. I tried resetsim and deleting the stairs and replacing them, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas of what could be causing this?

Nope. No mods/cc. Also, my game has been crashing a lot lately and I downloaded the sims 3 crash log analyzer and it says the most likely problem is that I need a better graphics card... And yet I checked and my graphics card should be more than capable to play it. Any ideas what might be causing that, too?

Hello,

What kind of graphics card do you have? I doubt updating the drivers will solve this particular problem, but it can help with the game crashes.
The problem with the stairs sounds more like a routing issue to me.

So the stair issue seemed to fix itself after a while. I figured out that moving it to the other side of the porch works fine? Then after a while I switched it back and it started working again on the fly, lol. If only my crashing issue would fix itself though... I have a Lenovo IdeaPad U400 and it has two graphic cards, Intel(R) HD Graphics Family and AMD Radeon. HD 6470M. I think it's supposed to switch to Radeon when I'm playing video games, but I have no way of telling what graphics card it uses at any given time. I'm wondering if maybe it's not using the correct card for Sims? (This also makes it hard to tell if I can play certain games when I check SystemRequirementsLab.com) Anyway, all my drivers are up to date. I tried downloading Game Booster and it didn't help at all, so I don't know what could be up.

You'll definitely want to make sure it's using the Radeon graphics, since Intel integrated graphics aren't actually supported by any Sims series.

You could disable your Intel card through Device Manager, so that you know for sure you're using the radeon card, and see if that fixes the crashing issue.

Hello,

Please download and apply this GPU driver: http://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/Driver/en/Downloads%20and%20Drivers/U400/Win7%20Update/IN1VDO77WW5.exe
Restart your PC afterwards and then test the game.

Okay so I tried disabling the intel card and now it's giving me this Error: No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware.

My drivers are up to date, so I have no idea why I'm getting this. For now I'm going to enable the intel graphics card again and hopefully the error will go away again.

Should I still install that driver you gave me, Admin?

So my computer has been out of commission due to battery problems for about a month. I've finally gotten it fixed. Anyway, I'm still having the problem even with the driver you gave me. This crashing issue is really ruining playing sims 3 for me lately, since I'm constantly getting my gameplay kicked back. Any other ideas? Sad

Hello,

Try backing up and removing this folder: Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\

See if that makes a difference.
If not, please download and use GameBooster.

Hello,

Besides the crashing, does it still do the stairs-bug?

No, it doesn't. Recently, though, I bought my family a new house and the toddler and child can't step onto platforms. Is this a glitch, or can they normally step on those? The house was built with a platform inside the nursery, so I don't understand why they would put that in there if toddlers/children cant navigate them.

EDIT: Now even the adults won't go onto platforms. They could before, but now they can't. Wth.

Hello,

I'm not surprised the toddlers can't navigate the platform. For the adults, try stairs. Sounds odd but it might just do the trick.

So... it works, but it's pretty sad that I need stairs for something so small that they used to be able to walk on just fine. Is there any way I can fix this so they don't have to resort to stairs?

I would vote either remove the platform, or get stairs like the entire length, and recolor them to match the platform, but the doorway might be in the way for that. Just would have to remove the railing also.

Other then that, I don't know, will have to wait for someone else.

Hello,

Definitely remove the railing.
I think I would move the door and get the stairs everywhere, or move them all the way to the left instead of in the middle of the room.
Or, remove the entire platform, though it does look very nice for a change.
