what is the small square box underneath my screen

Post by hariboluv on Mon 10 Sep 2012, 15:21

I was wonderng what this little square hole was that is underneath my screen. Is it a webcam? I thought they were only built in above the screen. I have a Dell Latitude e6500

i'm not good with all this computer stuff.. so please give me some clues to what it could be

by the way it has like clear plastic panel over it, its pretty small, and it does look like a camera

Hello,

I see what you mean (on Google images Wink) and it looks like a weird spot for a webcam. But I don't have a clue as to what it could be.

Hello,

I can't see very clear on the Google images, but I doubt that it's a webcam, actually.
It might be a sensor or something.

Can you make a close(r) picture?

Hello,

This image is pretty large, once you use zoom in. It doesn't look like a webcam at all.

So assuming the 6400 is before the OP's 6500, it's the light-sensitive chip.

Hello,

Very enlightening Wink
Interesting technology for sure.
