what is the small square box underneath my screen

I was wonderng what this little square hole was that is underneath my screen. Is it a webcam? I thought they were only built in above the screen. I have a Dell Latitude e6500
i'm not good with all this computer stuff.. so please give me some clues to what it could be
by the way it has like clear plastic panel over it, its pretty small, and it does look like a camera

I can't see very clear on the Google images, but I doubt that it's a webcam, actually.
It might be a sensor or something.
Can you make a close(r) picture?

This image is pretty large, once you use zoom in. It doesn't look like a webcam at all.
