Launcher - Generations Disc Auth. Fail.[SOLVED]

Post by Let me Play on Tue 25 Sep 2012, 00:38

To start off, I can play Generations 'immediately' by clicking the TSW3.exe file under C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin however I would prefer to access my game through the Launcher. Though, to be honest, I'm not entirely sure if that's a possible request. If not, I can suck it up and make separate shortcuts on Desktop, but before I do I just would like to see if I could get any help with my problem.

Before I had this error with Generations, I encountered the same thing with Supernatural. However, I uninstalled it in hopes to get Generations to at least work properly - which it doesn't... unfortunately. I would like to inform that this is my first time downloading from G4TW so I'm a bit /confused/ in how things are supposedly done. I have looked up through the search engine if anyone had similar issues, but most of them - I think - don't really apply to me unless I read them incorrectly. I hate to be a burden and everything, but... eh... I kinda need help on this.

Here is some additional information in regards to my issue:
IBought/Downloaded Sims3 from Origin
Windows 7 32-bit computer.
- - - I can provide images, but I'm not sure what to show. Till then, I'll just roam around upon request.

Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure how you have your game setup, but typically, the TS3.exe or TS3W.exe is cracked, and therefore must be ran from that. Running it from the launcher doesn't use the crack.

Is there any particular reason why you prefer the launcher? It's less work running it from TS3W, since you just send a shortcut from your Sims 3 folder to the desktop

Hello,

No the launcher is a separate application, it also uses TS3W.exe once you click the start button, so there's no reason why it shouldn't work with a cracked game.
If you want, you can install Supernatural again. Then, use the crack from the fix in the base game bin, which, in your case, is located in C:\Program Files\Origin (Games)\The Sims 3\Game\Bin.
After that, it should work.
I am curious though as to why you prefer the launcher to start your game, it doesn't make a difference as far as gameplay is concerned.

Are you positive? I have mine cracked, and can't use the launcher to start the game - I get a no disk error.

Hello,

Quite sure yes. I can start my game just fine using the launcher and I always have.
I bypass it because it seems useless to me and it takes way to long to load on my pc, but it works.

I agree, I think the launcher is useless, too. However, I guess certain cracks/setups won't allow for users to start the game using the launcher. Myself included.

It's primarily a self-preference thing since I hate having similar subjects/programs run under different locations.
Also, on a somewhat different subject before I play with my files again, is it normal for my Sims to automatically launch with a different 'background' after applying the *Crack under C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin ? Such as, before I installed these expansions my Sims would just launch itself with the basic plumbob. Then after I copy-and-paste the *crack, the 'background' would change to my recently installed expansion. So like I said before, I'm not sure if this is normal since I'm curious whether my previous expansions would still be set into the game despite the 'background' changes.

@Lady ElDi: Thank you, I'll try this out later today once I get home then post my results.

//EDIT

Alright! Goodnews, I can access Sims through the Launcher perfectly and I
still have Generation's traits implemented into the game despite having
the Supernatural 'background' whenever I open the shortcut. Assuming
that since I have yet to experience any sort of crashing, I think I have
my problem solved.

Thank you very much for helping!

Ah yes, it did. Thank you!

And yes, I do have another minor question; but I'm not sure if it applies in a similar situation. Anyway, I successfully installed a custom world, Mountain Dream, from the Sims Exchange but after being taken to the loading screen of entering it, the game crashed. Would the issue of this happening be on the game itself or the installed World?
Also, I checked out the forum topic that the original creator made for the case of feedback, but I saw no one post anything in regards to crashing.

PS: I had to remove your quote since it had a link in it and my account isn't permitted to gain that privilege.

Hello,

It's possible that that particular world is bugged or corrupted.

I think I figured out that I have to download more expansions in order for certain worlds to work.
Other than that, I don't think I need this topic open anymore so thank you again!
