Minor Issue

Post by Natalya on Mon 01 Oct 2012, 22:45

Hey there admin and G4TW staff! You guys are amazing providing us with the latest Sims 3 items from store + fixes and updates! I love you <3

Now, recently, when I am playing Sims 3 my game seems to load like 10 mins, lags A LOT... I didn't have that some weeks ago. So I decided to try the EA suggestion, to run the game in windowed mode... And it worked! Now it's not lagging at all and it loads fast and saves fast, which is amazing!
The problem I have is with the text in the windowed mode. While every object, texture etc appear just fine in windowed mode, the text is kinda messed up, like out of the 3 lines the middle one can only be seen half (some letters are missing parts like the A looking like a Λ and the R looking like l) Of course it doesn't affect the game and the text can still be read but it is a little bit annoying. When I switched back to full screen, text was appearing fine and lag was back :/

Anyone knows why the game lags on full screen so much and if it can be fixed or if the text thing on the windowed mode can be fixed?

Thank you in advance!

Have you tried changing the resolution in windowed mode? That might fix your text issues.

Hello,

That might even reduce lag in fullscreen mode. There are more possible solutions here.

I didn't know I could lower the resolution in full screen mode... I will definitely try it and see if it helps any. As for the thread Lady ElDi linked me to, I have tried those and quiet honestly, didn't see any improvements. But I also wanna ask, on full screen, apart from lowering resolution, will lowering the frame rate help any? If so, what should the frame rate be?

Higher frame rate = less lag and pauses, but there isn't an option to change frame rate, since that's decided by a number of factors. Are you thinking of refresh rate? Higher refresh rate reduces flickering on your monitor, but it can also be damaging if you have a higher refresh rate than what your monitor supports.

And so what am I supposed to do? just lower the resolution in full screen mode and hope for best results?

For now, yes. If that doesn't work, we'll go on from there.

Hello,

Actually, if you limit the FPS-rate it can also reduce lag, I did that myself with good results. I'm using an FPS limiter. There are only so many frames per second your brain can register so using a limiter doesn't exactly have dramatic effects visually, but it can definitely help with game performance.
There's an article about it here, the tool itself can be found here.
