Hello,

Haven't used it yet, but I heard it's a big difference with the Windows we were used to for 20 years.

I have Windows 8, upgraded via the upgrade checker thing, and there is a BIG change. You no longer have the start menu and that is replaced by the start screen where you can pin programs which Microsoft call apps. There's a Microsoft Store where you can download new apps. There's a lockscreen, and you can log in with either your Microsoft account or you can opt for just an ordinary account. It's faster than Windows 7 and my laptop has had a BIG speed boost. In my opinion, its worth buying and I definitely recommend it. And best of all, it looks great Smile

Does anyone know of a legit torrent? I don't and won't have a $100 to spend for it.

You don't need $100 to buy it. Download the upgrade checker from Microsoft's website, and it'll check your pc if it can run it and then It will recommend a W8 package based on your PC. I paid 24.99 to update my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

Really? Just $25? In stores it's close to a $100. After you pay taxes. But yeah, anyway. Thanks. I'll try that Smile

I want to try it, but for the most part I'm okay with 7 and XP. It's obviously targeted for touchscreen platforms, which doesn't sit right with me.

I may just torrent it or something, and buy it if I like it.

I'm sorry, but that sounds absolutely awful, glad you enjoy it though. I don't like the idea of turning my computer into a phone. I already don't like where the phone industry is going. But I'm going to have to just deal with it, since all the money for technology seems to be going towards phone apps and whatnot. I feel like I'm going to be like that old person who's like "Ugh what is this device, I'm going to just go use my windows 7" "Oh my god grandmaa, why don't you upgrade to windows 600 already! Jeez you old people"

It's for both touchscreen and traditional computers with a mouse and keyboard. It works just as good. I use it on my laptop, and I find it better than Windows 7. Not just because of how it looks etc, but because my laptop has gotten so much faster.

I can see why you don't like the idea of W8, its not everyone's cup of tea. I was a bit hesitant at first. It was my friend who persuaded me to upgrade to W8. I did forget to add that the traditional desktop is there as well, so you can use apps there too, but you'll have to keep clicking on the 'desktop app' each time you load up your pc/laptop/tablet and whatnot that has W8 installed.

Doesn't it use more memory than Win 7 though? I read online that Win 8 uses more GB.

Window's 8 can run on any system running Window's 7, so if your system can run 7, Window's 8 can run on it better. And less RAM was needed overall, but RAM isn't insane, and getting a laptop with 7 with less then 2-4 GB of ram in it is abnormal. (a netbook on the other hand 1-2 GB is what it normally all needs.)
