Sim 3 and Windows 8. [SOLVED]

Post by mercurypagen on Thu 08 Nov 2012, 04:25

Good Afternoon,

I need help, and I'm not sure what else to do here. Here is the situation.

My former laptop had kicked the bucket, forcing me (YAY!!!) to have to buy a new one. After some research, my husband and I end up choosing a really nice Dell Inspirion 17R for me. All of the specs are well above the minimum needed for Sims 3, so I know it's not that. It also has the new, evil Windows 8 OS, which is the ONLY drawback to it, however I am learning my way around it.

I have all of the games through retail starting with the base game up to Master Suite. I used Origin to re-download these last night as I was installing another game via DVD drive.

I used the downloads here at games4theworld to download and install Showtime, KatyPerrySweetTreats, Diesel, and Supernatural. I've done this a few times with the old laptop so I am fully familiar with the process on the install so this shouldn't be the problem.

When I pull up the launcher, everything shows like it is supposed to, however, when I click start, the launcher goes away like it normally would when the game starts.....only the game doesn't start. Nothing happens.

Am I missing a step? I haven't installed any CC at this point nor any of the store content.

HELP! Thanks

If that is where you go into the latest expansion's base folder and click on the file to run...

Yes, it does the same thing...nothing lol

I'm having a similar problem with my new widows 8 pc. My base game and store bought expansions work but when I add the last two expansions from here and apply the ultimate fix it does not work. I've done it before on my windows 7 laptop with no problems and have followed the directions completely. I get the insert disk message though instead of the launcher disappearing.

The "Insert Disk" error comes from having, or not having the Fix applied to the proper location.

You said that your base and store bought expansions work fine, but you have issues now....hmm

IF you used Origin to install the retail versions, is the fix in the Programs (86x)/OriginGames/Sims3/Game/Bin? (only matters if you used origin)

Or did you put it in the User/mydocuments/ElectronicArts/sims3/game/bin?

If you installed off actual disks, then you'd use the option directly above this sentence...

However...if that's not the issue...then I'm stumped here too lol.

My retail games are the disk versions. I put them in the second location, still does not work. Edited to add, this is where put the final crack in the fix per the directions......C:\Program Files(x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin. Sorry to hijack your thread, I just thought it was a similar problem maybe related to windows eight Smile

I had at the time yes, however, something glitched and I was forced to reset my laptop to factory settings last night, so I'm in the middle of a full reinstall of all sims 3 related games.

I've done all my retail stuff through origin and so far have installed KPST from here. I've started the game and it actually started this time, however, I got a message saying that my graphics card was unrecognized, not in the database, and the settings had been turned up to the highest settings and I should experiment with them as I play to see how things go.

I'm running an NVIDIA GT 650M graphics card, and it's one of the better ones out there so I'm not sure why it's not showing up in the database.

I will keep you all updated as I continue to download and install things as Im sure I will need more help.

Hello,

That's probably because there's still a conflict with Windows 8. It's promising that your game is starting now though, and I would expect your game to run fine on the highest settings. If you do experience problems, you can always try running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Hello,

That is the correct location for the crack. Would you be so kind as to open a new topic (to avoid confusion) and post a detailed screenshot of this folder, that shows the "file type", "date modified" etc of all the files in there?

OK I just tried to start the game after running the compatibility troubleshooter and set things to the recommended settings, I tried both Win7 and WinXP SP3,...

I start the launcher, hit play, and then nothing happens like before. Doesn't even start now

Re: Sim 3 and Windows 8. [SOLVED]

OK, I took a few days break before I smashed things to bits, but am now trying again.
I took all of G4TW downloads off of my sims 3, leaving me with only the retail versions.

I can get the game to turn on, and will start, but when it gets to the area where you select the neighborhood/family that you want to play, where you would log in to simport, and where your options are, It's all mucked up. I don't know what else to do.

The original message that I got when I installed was that the graphics card was not recognized and not in the database, and all of the settings had been set to the highest settings. I can't even change the settings at this point.

Im including PB shots of what I'm seeing when I load the game, to make it clearer and hopefully will spurn some answers.

All of my retails expansions, and base, are all properly patched to where they should be.

//EDIT

OK, I'm not entirely sure what happened...but....I think I fixed it!
My husband had me fully uninstall all of the games and cleaned out any
lingering files from the registery and install a fully clean set up. I
started with the base game...and it loaded, started and ran perfect! I
have done all of my retail games the same way and have everything
running perfect up through Master Suite stuff. I am about to start my
torrents from here to get the rest of the packs and will let you know!

I do appreciate anyone that has read my pleas for help thus far!
