Graphical issue w/ pets faces?

Post by jimmyjimka on Fri 16 Nov 2012, 19:48

Salutations,

My pets (dogs and cats specifically) have decided that its cute to have a creepy demon face. No fur on the face, bulgy eyes, and what I assume is just the raw "animal" body underneath. There are some rudimentary fixes that I tried playing with; enabling advanced rendering, screen refresh, resetting the sim-pet, restarting my computer, a gin and tonic. Nothing seems to be altering their eerie gaze.

It seems that other people have had the same problem I am experiencing, but no one seems to have a solid solution other than "update your graphics card." I, being asinine in my understanding of graphics cards and general computer parts, have no idea what to do or how to upgrade. I have no mods, and I used the Ultimate Fix Guide from this site. It was awesome, thank you very much for making it. If there is some kind of driver solution that I could use (to avoid having to drop a couple C-notes) that would be awesome. Seeing as video cards are part of the problem, this is what the "Can I run it?" site said about my computer.

Any help that can be extended to me is greatly appreciated, and thank you for reading all this.

Hello,

Admin could find the driver you need, it looks like he has all the information he needs, so please check back for his reply.

Hello there,

This should do: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-306.97-whql-driver-uk.html

Choose "Custom" and "Clean installation" during the installation wizard, if possible.
Good luck!

Its like voodoo magic! The driver installed smoothly and I performed it with the clean installation. With advanced rendering enabled, I have a dog now and not some kind of awful creature from the Hellraiser series.
Thank you ElDI and Admin, for solving that problem.
It appears though that with advanced rendering turned on with my computer, the Sims keeps randomly crashing. I'm not sure if its advanced rendering that makes this happen or not, but some additional help would be swell.

Hello there,

Glad to hear that did the trick!
For your other problem, try step 6, please: http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t4692-game-lag-possible-fixes

Your GPU might not be powerful enough, I don't know.

Hm... the Game Booster did not improve things by much. Still experiencing random crashes.
Is there any way I can improve my GPU? Suggestions for a good product?

Hello,

Have you tried lowering all in-game graphic sliders and turn off all extra graphicfeatures?

Hello,

How about just turning advanced rendering off?

Well, when I turn off advanced rendering this is what happens to my dog.

Hello,

Yes I had noticed that myself when I was trying to fix my game crashes. The stray cat that was on my porch's face was all over the place.
But after doing some reading here and there, it is my conclusion that EA has some fixing to do before we can play without grief. In other words, it's not the hardware, it's the EP or the patch.

I hope that EA has a fix if that is the case! Some of the reading I did suggested that it was a hardware problem, and there is a fair amount of dissent amongst the official Sims forums as to what the solution should be. Thanks for all your help as well, Lady ElDI and Admin.

Hello,

You might like to know that I managed to play without crashes for a couple of hours yesterday, by using a different neighbourhood. With advanced rendering on.
Perhaps it is that this town doesn't have a lot of sims, or the routing is better, or ...
Anyway, try a few different towns.

Hello,

There is no fix for the deformed pets, unfortunately. If your graphics card/chip isn't supported, your pets will be deformed. Downloading a different Pets torrent will change nothing about that.
If however your issue is similar to the one here, you may be able to remedy this by simply updating your drivers and turning on advanced rendering.
If you want, we can have a look at it, but if you want us to have a look, please open a new topic and post a screenshot of the pet so that we may see which problem it is.
