Crashing issue, possibly because of CC

Post by Phoebe on Sun 25 Nov 2012, 20:09

I am an active Sims player, and have played all expansion packs on Mac and PC. Currently, using a Macbook Air. And unfortunately dealing with lots of crashes.

Crashes are happening in game, after 5-10 minutes from start playing. Suddenly red and green stripes covers the screen and games starts to act weird. For example, you can't see the options panel right, like build/buy mode, you can't see the icons or switches. After that then game either crashes and returns to desktop or freezes. If it freezes, I have to restart the mac completely. Before installing Seasons, some time it happened but not that frequently. I can't play the game without crashing in every 5 minutes now.

I tried to find a solution on my own. After applying my knowledge and reading almost every crashing issue here in the forum ,I think I identified the problem. I think crashes are due to CC. Here are the things that lead me this result:

1. I made sure myself that my game is up to date. I have all expansion packs and they are updated and patched with Ultimate Fix.

2. My macbook is newly bought and it is in a pretty good condition, it supports the game requirements. Still, I tried to lower the graphic details but it didn't help.

3. Then I deleted all cache files and tumbnails also. It didn't work either.

4. I renamed the Sims 3 file. Then I played the game after forcing it to create a new file, and it didn't crash for 1 hour. So this made me think that my CCs are the problem. But the thing is I have lots and LOTS of CC and store content, and I can't imagine playing without them. If it is about one mod or CC, how can I identfy it and solve the problem?

But still, it crashed after renaming the Sims 3 file after 1 hour. Or should I think it isn't just because of CC? I'd love to hear your opinions.

Thanks in advance, G4TW rocks! Like a Star @ heaven

Hello,

It's probably not store content, so you can rule that out.
It's unlikely that it's CC, so you can put them aside while you're testing the mods first.
What you can do is put your mods back a few at a time and test the game. Once the crashing starts, you'll know where to look and you can narrow down the cause of the problem quite easily.

Yes, I think the reason of the crashing is the CC too.
I start a new game and everything goes perfect. But the moment I create custom clothes or something, it starts crashing.

Btw, how do you delete thumbnails and cache?

In Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 file, just delete all the cache files. There is also a file named Thumbnails. Delete all the files in it. Game will create new ones.

Here's what I did today:

I uninstalled all the expansions and just left Seasons and base game, it runs perfectly. Not a single crashing.
I added the rest and... Crash!
I don't think is the CC anymore because I didn't have any while playing, so it has to be the expansion itself.

It happened to me when I installed Supernatural. I think it is Mac thing. I solved it, thanks to a friend from here.

I just had to uninstall all EPs and base game. And I followed that order: Installed base game, applied the manual patch as my base was incompitable unupdatable. Then I start to install every EP. After installing the last expansion pack, I updated my game with manual patch again. And applied only the #Crack file and it worked. I think we mac users need to update our game after done installing again.

Please try this to and inform me the result. I hope it works.

I did it last night but not with all the EPs, just the stuff packs, Generations and Seasons. And it worked perfectly.
I'm afraid that if I install all of them, it starts crashing again and I have to uninstall and install everything one more time. Sad
I spend more time installing than playing. But yeah, I'll do what you did and see how it goes.
Are you playing ok now with all the EPs then? And I guess you mean update with the 1.42 super patch, right?

Ok. Is your game updated to 1.42? Do you only have Sims 3 base and Generations then?
I suggest you to open a new thread though, so everyone can help you. Wink

@phoebethetwilightprincess No, mine didn't work. Sad
I did exactly what you said and I couldn't even pass the CAS screen. I was going to choose the traits and suddenly crashed.
And here's what he looked like when choosing the outerwear. Weird, right?

I give up playing Seasons until somebody fixes that bug with Mac. And I'm sure is not a Mac thing because I can play perfectly staying in 1.39 and having till Diesel stuff installed. The moment I install Supernatural, it crashes as well. Or maybe I have bad luck! Who knows. Very Happy

Pfff... Really I am getting really upset with how EA treat us, the mac users...
I am still having crashes, and trying to figure out. I can play game but only with crashes every half and hour. Still trying to figure out the reason.
Lo siento TCPCohen WhatDidUJustCallMe?

Don't be sorry, dear. It's not your fault. Razz

Now I'm in 1.39 with all EPs installed and it still crashes. I get the feeling that the problem is happening with Supernatural too. I'm so tired of the crashing that I don't want to play anymore Sad

I think I fixed my game! I renamed the Sims 3 files and let the game create a new one.
Then slowly I installed the CC and then store contents. They work fine.

@TCPCohen, I think we should figure the cause of your crashes. Then I believe you can solve it. Please reach me if you need help.

Thanks Lady ElDi Smile

Hey!
Well, now I have Seasons installed but I had to uninstall Showtime and Fast Lane, because I think one of them is causing the problem. I'm playing in Lucky Palms and it hasn't crashed yet, so I guess I fixed the problem. Maybe having all EPs installed is bugging Seasons somehow.
I'm going to play for a while later and see if it keeps running perfectly.

Thank you both so much for everything. <3
