How to cut down lag?

Post by Ashkevron on Sun 25 Nov 2012, 23:40

Okay so I have installed Overwatch and that helps a fair bit. Now I have also read you can delete compositorcache, simcompositorcache and CASpartcache which apparently is supposed to help.

Now I have also seen you can delete DCbackup on a few places but would like to have that confirmed by someone here who has actually done it will no ill effects.

I also notice a new folder (or at least one that I don't remember seeing before seasons) and that is a folder called FeaturedItems.....can that be deleted or no?

I have had a LOT less lag since using Overwatch but still get the occasional stutter so was looking into all the ways to reduce lag.

Ha! Got beaten to it by my previous poster!!! hehe
Also, do you use CC? If so, how do you install them in game?

And finally, the game itself is way too big, with town and houses and sims all over. So some lag is only natural to occur when going to town view or when having a lot of actions for a sim to do.

Hello,

DCBackup has your installed sims3packs, I wouldn't recommend deleting those unless you get a problem with your sims3packs. The other caches can make a difference, but have to be regenerated by the game after you delete them which can increase the time it takes to load.
I wouldn't touch the "featured items", no idea what that does.

Yep I have read that article. That is what led me to Overwatch, which as I said works great. I do use CC and install them with the sims launcher. I tried using CCmagic but go so many crashes after doing so and so many problems I had to uninstall CCmagic and reinstall the game.

I am working pretty good with very little lag, just a stutter now and then, and so was asking mostly about those files I mentioned. I never really noticed an improvement when deleting the compositorcache, simcompositorcache and CASpartcache folders...but I did it before starting any game so maybe I just never let them get so big they caused problems. But the others I mentioned I have seen talked about here and there but wanted some more confirmation...particularly DCBackup (since it is just a backup apparently).

I think I have probably reduced it all it is going to go (thanks Overwatch) I was just hoping for that tiny bit more to get rid of the last of it....but that is probably not realistic as anything as big as this will have some lag.

Thanks all for the info though. I think

Hello,

How about the fixed towns? That may be a final option. Since lag is often caused by bad routing.
