Dragging and dropping the .exe and .dll files.. Help!

Post by pluto on Wed 12 Dec 2012, 18:13

So I just downloaded the base game, Seasons expansion, the manual patch and the ultimate fix. When I try to drop the .exe and .dll file into the Sims 3 file, it says "access denied" and "cannot create __rar_00.083". Am I dropping it into the wrong file?

Screen shot of my Sims 3 bin:

I dropped them into the Cracked file, the The Sims 3 disk 1.oso, and the Sims 3 start disk.iso

Error message:

//EDIT

I only have a Bin file in the Seasons folder, but not in the base game.

Hello,

You're copying to the wrong folder.
You're actually copying to the .rar file you downloaded?

Please open the .rar file you downloaded using only WinRar, which can be downloaded from www.games4theworld.org . (If you use any other software than WinRar, like WinZip or 7-zip, the files will get messed up!) When you've opened the file using WinRar, select áll the files in it and drag & drop them to a folder on your Desktop. When the extraction is done, close the .rar file and open the folder on your Desktop. Now, start by reading the included "# Installation Guide.txt" and you should be able to get the game to work yourself. Good luck!

When I tried to follow the instructions on the Seasons.rar file, it told me I needed to download the Sims 3 base game first (even though I already did). It also appeared that my Sims 3.rar file didn't have a bin like the Seasons file did. I figured something went wrong while I was downloading the base game so I'm in the process of downloading it again. I will try to follow the instructions after it's downloaded and let you know the result.

Hello,

Don't look at the files that are in the .rar file, those are not important.
Where did you get your base game from?

I got my base game from you on the pirate bay. I don't seem to have such a Bin in my base game.

//EDIT

I guess I'm mainly confused as to why I don't have anything in the
C:\Program Files (x86)\The Sims 3\Game\Bin location to even drop the
.exe and .dll files into. In the folder I extracted to my desktop,
there is no Bin file either, as you can see:

Only
my expansion folder has a Bin file, but that does me no good because
it's not where the .exe and .dll need to be dropped into.

Hello,

Did you change anything during the installation, most of all the install directory? If you did, that's where you have to look.
Your screenshot is not showing the install directory, those are the extracted files. There's not supposed to be a "bin" in there.

No, I didn't change anything. I just downloaded the base game and extracted it to my desktop. I have no idea where the install directory is.

Hello,

Might be a stupid question, but did you actually install the base game at all?

Sounds like a good question.
Pluto, please have a look at this video to help you with the base game installation.

Re: Dragging and dropping the .exe and .dll files.. Help!

Post by pluto on Sun 16 Dec 2012, 19:00

Yes I did, I installed your download of the base game through the piratebay. I downloaded it twice because the first time I figured something went wrong as I didn't have any such location as C:\Program Files (x86)\The Sims 3\Game\Bin or C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin and I didn't install the game through Origin. So I downloaded it a second time and still nothing. This is all I have of the base game after downloading it: The Crack File, the Installation Guide, The Sims 3 Disk 1, and The Sims 3 Start Disk.

Maybe I should try downloading it a third time? I really have no idea what could be wrong as I have made no changes to anything during the downloading process, unless there is something wrong with my computer's default settings. Could already having the Sims 2 cause any problems?

Ok, so I just realized my problem might be that I didn't install Daemon Tools Lite! Will the download work at all if I install it after the Sims 3 base game, or should I delete the base game and download Daemon Tools first?

I'm kinda lost at what you mean, can you describe more please? Since they should add to each other and such. And your loading screen and such will always be the latest expansion you have.

Ok, so now they are all showing up after installing the manual patch and updating the game. My problem now is that whenever I try to open the game, I get a pop-up that says I need the Seasons disc before proceeding.

Also, my initial problem was caused because I forgot to mount the files from the torrent. Smile

Did you use the Ultimate Fix or the files in the #Crack folder in the extracted .rar for the expansion? Use the Ultimate Fix, since those are the latest files. Older Expansions have outdated cracks, just because the cracks need to be updated for a game version. (Seasons has the latest currently, but will change once EA does another patch for The Sims 3.)

You don't need to mount anything other then the Base Game.

Hmm, your running 1.42 right? Kinda have to be for Seasons, so applying the latest Ultimate Fix to the The Sims 3\Game\Bin should solve that.

Can you post a detail screenshot of where you applied the Ultimate Fix last files move? After the step for if your updating.

What I did was that I took the files from here:

and moved them here:

before that, I took the two files in the crack folder of the fix and moved them to the games/bin folder.

Is this correct?
