Uninstall, reinstall...now what?

Post by Isis_S_Corner on Sun 23 Dec 2012, 10:33

Hello there, here's my current issue:
So I waited for a while to get the Seasons expansion, did my back up, and uninstalled the game, it was working pretty well, I had the base game, world adventures, showtime, late night, high end loft stuff and supernatural, and I wanted to add the newest.
So I possibly made my first mistake by uninstalling everything, and then reinstall, this is the last order in which I did it
sims 3
(applied the manual patch to 1.42 since it was freezing when I was trying to install world adventures)
world adventures
high end loft stuff
generations (here it prompted me that I'd need to update this expansion through the launcher since my base game was more recent than it) *****starting to think this might be at fault somehow*****
showtime
supernatural
seasons

then applied the ultimate fix.

and when I try to launch directly and this appears

then I tried the launcher and this

Needless to say I didn't know where to look for this mentioned "log"

happens, so I'm thinking right now I should go to sleep and try again tomorrow, but my question is how?
Should I erase every registry from the game? (and if so how?)

Please, please, please help me.

p.d. I'm starting to think my mistake was updating the base program after installing it....not sure anymore.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Nah, you didn't restart the pc after you uninstalled it. The order in which you reinstalled nor the message you got when you installed Generations caused this.
As a side note: you didn't have to uninstall at all.

Try this.

Thanks for the screenshot. Could you scroll a little further down and give the details of what it says right under "EXCEPTION TEXT" please? I created this tool and can have it fixed quickly.

Interesting. If you wouldn't mind giving me 10 minutes I can build a "debug" version that will certainly give more information. I'll message you with the URL if you wouldn't mind helping me get that error fixed.

We're gonna get into the nitty-gritty of the problem with both my tool and your Sims 3 install (I have a feeling the problem that your game is having is the same problem my tool is having). I replied to your private message with some instructions that will allow me to help you resolve this without using my tool.

Re: Uninstall, reinstall...now what?

Alright, your registry looks fine. If you did end up double clicking the file I sent you don't worry about it - your system will ignore them. However, here is another thing that can cause this issue, and how to fix it.

- Bad user files.

First we're going to perform a little test to save us some time. Go into your My Documents\Electronic Arts folder. In there, rename the folder named "The Sims 3" to "The Sims 3.bak". Try to launch the game. If successful continue reading at the [WORK], if not, continue reading at the "[NOT WORK]"

[WORK]
So there's a corrupt file that is causing the issue. If you want this to be quick and easy you could just delete the folder that you renamed earlier - but you will lose anything you had previously (mods, cc, saves, etc). If you want to try and keep the stuff that isn't corrupt, well, we can try to do that for you. Here we go;

- Delete the new "The Sims 3" folder that appeared, if there is one.
- Rename "The Sims 3.bak" back to "The Sims 3"
- Go into that folder

After each of the steps below, return to My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

- Go into the folder named CurrentGame.sims3 and delete all files in there. There should never be any files in this folder unless you are playing the game, and since you're not playing right this minute they need to go.

- Go into DCCache and delete all files with a ".EBC" extension, and also delete the file named "missingdeps.idx"

- Go into the Saves folder and delete any folder that has the text ".bad" in the name (ie: Moonlight Falls.sims3.bad)

- Go into the Thumbnails folder and delete all of the files in there.

- Without going into a new folder, look for files (not folders) that contain the word "cache" and have an extension of ".package" - delete them (there could be up to 7-8 of them).

Before performing this next step, try to launch the game. Only do this next step IF you're still having the error mentioned above.

- If you have a folder named "Mods" in your My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder, drag it to your desktop using the right mouse button. When you release the button click on "Move Here". Try launching the game. If you're still having issues, then unfortunately it's something that can't be easily fixed and your best bet is to delete your My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder and starting everything all over. If it DOES work after moving your mods folder, then there is a corrupt mod that is causing an issue, and you should try putting them back in small groups then testing in between to figure out which mod it is.

If none of the above work, keep reading below the [NOT WORK].

[NOT WORK]
- Check the amount of free space on your hard drive. If you are low on space you can get the error in your original post.
- Try running the game under Win XP SP3 compatibility mode and/or as administrator.

If nothing above fixes your issue then I'm afraid the only solution will be to completely remove everything, use a registry cleaner (ie: CCleaner) then reinstall everything.

Good luck!

So I tried the solution that you kindly provided but I guess my pc just doesn't want to cooperate 'cause after I did a clean start I got this message again

Sad

//EDIT

Ok so I decided to do something radical, and I went to a restore point
of my pc, and it worked, the game launches, the only thing now is to
have the expansion packs to appear, but I think I saw something about
that in the forum.

-turns out there problem happens after
applying the final fix, so I'll just download all the expansions again
and start all over, holiday reinstalling.

At least my Medieval Sims work like a charm Smile

Hello,

You mean they are greyed out on the launcher? If yes, step 2 - the manual patch - should take care of that: http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t1171-must-read-how-to-install-the-sims-3-correctly
