Sims Medieval 1.2.3 still crashing

Post by chandos on Tue 05 Apr 2011, 05:58

Hi guys, thanks for the crack and the ultimate fix, but I'm having some trouble with it. My graphic processor is Intel-something, and the game crashes when I place certain buildings in the kingdom. Now, EA's 1.2.3 patch is supposed to fix this, but I'm still having the issue even though 1.2.3 installed without a problem using your ultimate fix. I suspect I'm not able to take advantage of the fix because I replaced the original TSM.exe file with your version (considerable difference in file sizes). Any idea what to do about this?

Hello,

When you apply THIS fix, you'll automatically have the latest version of the game, íncluding all the fixes that come with the patch/update.
The crack in only there so you don't get the "Please insert DVD" error. It has nothing to do with the crack.

Please try to re-apply the crack. If that doesn't work, try the following:

*Backup your savegames

1. Completely uninstall the game.
2. Restart your PC.
3. Reinstall the game, but DO NOT apply the included crack!
4. Apply this fix: http://games4theworld.bestgoo.com/t916-the-sims-medieval-ultimate-fix-should-fix-most-of-your-problems
5. See if it works now.

Good luck!

Well it didn't work. The game still crashes when I try to place a barracks. EA says v1.2.3 should have fixed this but it's still there.

Hello,

Did you use any mods in-game?

1.2.3 does really fix that issue but you need to make sure you really get that update and the only way to get that update fully is to use the Ultimate Fix for TSM and not apply the original crack that comes with the full download But apply the first crack that comes in the Ultimate fix files. If you apply the original crack files or don't apply the first crack files from the ultimate fix you will not get the 1.2.3. update installed correctly.

Once you uninstall TSM, make sure you delete all the TSM directories both in My Documents and Program Files. Unfortunately I found that is you saved game files from when the game was crashing - the damage was already done to the saved game and you will continue to have some problems with building and CAS crashing. So you are going to have to start from a clean slate.

Once your files are all gone, then install the game per the instructions with the torrent BUT don't install the crack that came with the original torrent.

The crack you install instead is the one in the Ultimate Fox for TSM that is in the /medieval/ folder when you UNRAR the ulrimate fix. I need to add here that you need to be using WINRAR to open these archives and not windows archiver or winzip -or any other - these can mess up the files.

Now once you copy the TSM.exe and TSM.ini from the /medieval/ folder in the Ulrimate Fix for Medieval (make sure you tell it to overwrite the files and not to keep both). These files need to be copied over to the C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\Game\Bin.

You need to run the game the first time using the SimsMedievalLauncher.exe.

When it loads click the Update button to go to the update window. First thing to do here is to UNCHECK the auto update button - you don't want autoupdates.

If it does not immediately tell you there is an update use the refresh button. If you have done everything correctly up to now it should tell you there is an update.

If you accidentally applied the crack that came in the torrent with the full game and then applied the crack from the Fix /medieval/ folder or /crack/ folder the update will either tell you its up to date or the launcher will yell for a disc. If either of these happen.. start over and get the right files copied into the right places.

Let the update run and follow the wizard's instructions. Its not a huge update but big enough so make sure that you have given it time to download and install and get a installation screen that says its finished. There can be pauses between the download of the update, the installation and the finish so don't take the pauses to mean its done. If you stop the update before its complete then even EA support will tell you your looking at a re-install Smile

Now once the update is applied you will need to copy the TSM.exe and TSM.ini from the TSM Ultimate fix /crack/ folder over the same files in the C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\Game\Bin. Make sure you tell it to overwrite the files and not to keep both.

After you do this you want to run the game using the TSM.exe. If you want to use the desktop shortcut you want to change the target in the shortcut properties to "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\Game\Bin\TSM.exe" instead of "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\Game\Bin\SimsMedievalLauncher.exe". This will load the game without using the launcher, and avoid both a request for a disk and some other launcher induced issues.

Now, you should be able to start a fresh new game - and not experience any crashing. If you want to test out the building crash problems even while still in the tutorial you can turn the testingcheats on and set the QP's higher so you can build out new buildings faster. Let me know if you don't know how to do that but the instructions are all over the place so I figure everyone may have that info and does not need me to repeat it Smile

If you want to skip new beginnings because you already played the tutorial - those instructions someone else is going to have to give cause I am still stuck in new beginnings although I played through the tutorial and have yet to figure out how to unlock other ambitions Smile

If after this very clean install you still have a crashing problem then you are dealing with a UAC issue. You have to go through the install of a fresh game without applying and saved games to make sure its not the crash bug that 1.2.3. fixed - because 99% of the time its the game bug and not the UAC problem.

If you need UAC fixing problems (EA Knowledge base has the instructions to fix this) and don't want to go hunting through EA knowledge base I can explain that too but see what this cleaninstall does first.

Hello,

Sidenote: if you want to apply the Ultimate Fix, just follow the included "# Installation Guide.txt". I'm pretty sure it's clear enough.

Also, everyone is saying something about unlocking ambitions. I don't really see the problem. Do you mean new quests or am I missing something?

If you're still having crashing problems, I recommend you wait for a new EA patch. I think these TSM problems will keep them busy for a while.
