Looking forward to Sim City but wondering

Post by Ashkevron on Sat 26 Jan 2013, 13:56

I am wondering if this game is gonna be....available without paying....or if it is going to work like anno 2070 where half the game is not accessible unless you are logged into their servers. I wonder because on the game site it mentions LIve Service with challenges and poppables and so on. If that is so then this might be the first game I have actually paid for in years.

edit: answering my own question...it's going to be online like anno....apparently with no offline play at all. so sad because it looked really fun, but I refuse to pay for a game with absolutely no offline play available.

Hello,

As far as I know it has both an online and offline mode.
From what I've read, the graphics are pretty astonishing (for a SimCity game).

hmmmm.....I think you are wrong about the online offline thing. a message from one of the devs as well as the HUGE 181 page post in the forums there are pretty clear there is no offline mode.

as for the graphics....the comments on the beta forums say otherwise. overall, judging by the beta forums, this is gonna be a huge flop.

Hello there,

I'm basing it on what I've read from a journalist who played the game for about 6 hours.

yeah, and I am going by the forums which contains a bunch of pissed off people....so you can take my observations with a grain of salt since they are complaining about everything...same on youtube in the ea channel...bunch of people complaining about no offline mode...so it's hard to know what to believe but with so many complaints I am sticking with the no offline mode observations

the very little I was able to see before the servers went down for maintenance, the graphics were....different....but definitely not a game killer. they are...cartoony...but not in a bad way really. like I said wouldn't be a game killer for me, in fact I like pretty much everything about it except for the no oflline mode. there is a way apparently, to sort of bubble your city or area which won't allow others to play in your area, but you still must be online to play it...if you disconnect from the internet at any point after about 30 seconds you are disconnected from the game. also saved games are not saved to personal pc, they are cloud saved, so no internet access means you can't play a saved game.

Hello,

I disagree with you. A (Maxis) game without an offline mode? That doesn't sound realistic.
Besides, the offline mode might be blocked for beta testers. But I doubt that.

well we'll have to wait and see I guess

the statements from Ocean Quigley [Sim City Creative Director] in the EA forums are pretty clear in saying this is an online game which you must be connected to the servers to play...no offline game. I am sure the journalist was shown what they wanted him to see, they want to promote the game and letting people know they have to be connected to online servers to play with no offline mode is not really a selling point. But I am not going to argue any more, we will see what happens at release.

And while the creative part might be Maxis, it is EA that is publishing it and whose servers it will be on.

Hello there,

Indeed, it's useless anyway.
We'll see. Twisted Evil
